WHAT TOOLS ARE YOU HOPING SANTA DROPS OFF UNDER YOUR TREE?

I don,t know about most of you guys but Ive always liked to find any excuse or reason to get a few new tools, or possibly shop supplies, so when I get asked what I want for Christmas by relatives, Id sure rather get an assortment of drill bits or sockets than a sweater or shirt that probably won,t fit , so a chance to add even a few minor things too the tool inventory is almost always a good thing!
yeah! you really need to be rather specific if they ask,
you damn sure don,t want to say something stupid like I need a new hammer ,
you need to be 100% specific
and give DETAILS AND PART NUMBERS,
A PICTURE CIRCLED IN A CATALOG HELPS
NVER BE VAGUE and say I need a new hammer,
DRILL SET, SOCKET SET, METER, SCAN TOOL,SOFTWARE, etc. or welding torch, vise etc. GIVE A PART NUMBER 1234567
from NAPA,
or part number 1234567 from SEARS/ CRAFTSMAN
or your certain to get some useless crap!
and of course you'll want to ask specifically what they are hoping Santa has for them in the sleigh

because just like you they probably have some specific thing on their wish list and you certainly don,t want to buy the wrong do-hicky or thing-a-ma-jig that they want either!
shop carefully the exact same set of mics from the same company can cost $270-$900 depending on where you buy the set

IF you find they are reluctant to buy tools, a gift certificate at their favorite vendor in exchange for something similar at one you prefer might be an option,
theres always GIFT CERTIFICATES , JEGS, SUMMIT, ETC. SELL THOSE

almost every mechanics tool box needs a few basic measuring tools and supplies, dealing in proven facts as to correct clearance sure beats guessing

I asked Santa for a welder...... Santa's elves will likely only be able to afford a fairly basic model, but, if (s)he comes through, I'll be stoked all the same.... :) I really feel the need to take two metal objects and make them into one metal thing..... or two metal things permanently attached to each other....

I would suggest either Lincoln, Miller, or Hobart all three have systems in the 3 way split of much better quality. Those systems are very commonly used and have a wider variety of uses. I saw one at Airgas when I paid my bottle least that had all three plus MIG made by miller and the mig capable up to 3/8 thick. Very similar in price, with roll around cart for 1600 bux.

If Lincoln, Miller or Hobart make a TIG/Plasma Cutter I can't find it. If I bought
separates, they would cost way more. For instance Hobart has 40 amp plasma
cutter that is another $300-$400 more than the Everlast 50 amp cutter and it
still does not even have a TIG welder, that would cost another $1800.

A Miller Diversioin 180 TIG welder (Smaller than Everlast) alone is $1900, which
is already more and has no plasma cutter.

I would love to have a name brand, but I'm reading good things about Everlast....yes it's
made in China, but for $ 1800 it's the ONLY way I can afford both TIG and Plasma. Besides
I don't have the room in my 2 car garage for two separate units..... that's just not going to
happen.

Please post some links to combination TIG/Plasma welder/cutter, I'm still on the fence
about buying at this time!

What I meant is they all have combos that are equal to the one in your link.

I don't have any links, the one I was talking about I saw at the local AirGas outlet. I liked it but don't have the funds. Me personally I would prefer to go shopping.

If I was buying I might look for a stick, plasma combo, then add a dry rig TIG torch to it. But, think about it, your not going to need a bigger amp machine, plasma maybe 80 amp at most, TIG 125 max, stick maybe 180.

I could really be entertained if Santa brought me a nice working Drone. My neighbor a few cows down has a helicopter and once in awhile he'll buzz my property and later comes by unannounced trying to get my wife or the kids to buy some photos of our house and the land (it's funny how I'm never home when he comes by, only when he takes the pictures).
I'd like to buzz around his spread and take some good pictures. He's got a lot more stuff on his property, maybe wants some privacy?

There are dozens upon dozens of drone makers with camera or small package delivery capability. Price ranges from $30 to $50,000 all depending on what features you want. I have operated very good (based on my feelings) drones for less than $250 and go up to 1000 ft high and nearly a mile sometimes more depending on conditions.

Show him This!

what you need is to some how get a picture like this taken at 3 A.M. with a alarm clock in the picture taken of your neighbor with infrared film in his bedroom
sleepd.jpg

then have someone who is really really good at photo shop software add
chainsawk.jpg
to the picture standing over them in infrared in the photo
then tell him you down loaded it from your monitoring screens

I think if one of my neighbors was buzzing me with a drone it would have an unexplained crash

Not sure about the whole $600, but I need a dial bore gauge for my blown/stack injection
BBC for my TBucket .... can you even do that????

DialBoreGauge.jpg

If it don't read in 1/10,000, then it's useless !!!!!!

if you can show me a single valid controlled and repeatable test,
where a .0001 difference or change in main bearing clearances, made a measurable difference in an engines power or durability in ANY WAY I might be concerned

Id bet that the vast majority of rebuilt engines don,t have crank journals that are consistently round to .0001

That stipulation eliminated most of non-engine building guys. How about if you had $550 to spend on a tool/s that would allow you to advance your skills to the next level.

GOOD POINT!
well, admittedly I may have screwed up the way it was presented ,and the examples used, may not have been great,
I can see where a decent drill press, or small mig welder etc.
might be more universal,
but I though that whole thread was pointing toward that same basic intent
