It can be done. You need to show you have at least 25% of the total start up plan, but there are ways to get 0.0% long term loans for down payments. You need to check with your Chamber of Commerce for tax incentive regions (when purchasing space). Cook County has revitalize zones that forgive the state transfer tax, sales tax for your customers and up to 30% tax base reductions. There is much more money available to purchase a shop than to lease unless your talking about employing over 150 new people. I just passed along information of an auto old welding shop on a major highway.
It was for sale for over six years asking $225,000. The owner is going to file bankruptcy soon and he'll take $85,000 cash for the remaining mortgage. The property is ready for reopining, it comes with everything but hand tools. This of course is not for you but I'm just showing if you look hard enough these deals are around most every where.

I've been waiting for any questions or Concerns before I start working on any grants. I guess there isn't any?

well, Im surely wondering what I'm limited to doing with the money, if I got a grant ?
and what I have to do to the web site to qualify, for a grant,?
will I be required to go by some strict guide lines ?
lets say for example I got $8000 that amount would be seen as PERSONAL INCOME, or will I have to incorporate and file as a corp.and pay business taxes also?
yes I had several questions but I kind of figured you might show me a form or two with the requirements restrictions, limitations etc.
example
If I paid a guy to go over the website and add features , or place links to increase members etc. would that be ok?
if I got offers from some source to pay monthly to advertise some products , does that effect the site or do I even want that?
If I start a thread about building an engine, can I buy a camera and or tools, that would be used, can I use the cash to buy parts used in the build?
can I hire a temp web site designer and pay his fees?
basically what can i do with any windfall cash and whats required to spend it without the IRS or some feds carting my ? "ignorant too the rules ass" into court for screwing that list of guide lines up!
you rarely get anything free without a few major STRINGS ATTACHED

That's why I have hundreds of grants to look through to see what works and what doesn't. Private sourced grants are tax free, grants that require you to be a member of an organization like the descendent soft the Mayflower or the Blue Lodge of the Masons typically are tax free as are grants for school.
I have never heard of any audit clause on a simple grant. If you applied for a grant to start a small business and you never reach the amount you need, so what! You must meet the initial requirements of the grant and after that nobody cares. Some grants from the Federal Reserve have you sign a 1099 form. I stay away from those but most people apply for them because they are always the easiest and fastest to receive.
You are bound by the rules of the IRS to report any and all income, income from a garage - yard sale, tips of all kinds, but when was the last time the IRS went after someone for the proceeds they received from selling wheels on Craigs List, selling a coin from your collection or selling your car? If you have capital gains from any grant and you are the single unluckiest man in the US that gets called on some grant money, you simply have your write offs to offset or eliminate any personal gains. When you apply for any grants, all the rules are clearly defined and if you can't abide by the rules and the consequences you simply keep on looking.

As I said before, I went through a lot of work for a few people who at the end couldn't believe the Feds give away money so they chickened out. One young mechanic I met while he was working for another shop complained he wasn't making enough and wanted to be his own boss. I offered to be his silent partner and use 100% grants to get started, no strings attached, no debt load or loans to repay. It took me 6 weeks to find and apply for 11 grants totaling more than $162,000 with the rights to extend the grants for 3 years with options of another $215,000 and he got scared when he told his family they all talked him out of doing it even though they had no knowledge or understanding of what any US citizen could do with government aid.
Last year I committed too much time and too much in donations helping others so this year I will show some how to take care of themselves

first let me say THANK YOU for the assistance and access to the KNOWLEDGE !
As I'm sure you might have read I started this website because I got frustrated at years of bad or mis-leading or outright false info, and finding I and other who knew what we were doing had posted info on websites that eventually closed or deleted the threads containing the useful info.
not much pissed me off more than spending a month or two working out and posting detailed answers on a thread on a different web-site, that contained dozens of links and hundreds of instructive pictures , and research, on engine builds, and parts sources, or setting up a race car, only to have the thread deleted as it was several months old

http://garage.grumpysperformance.com/index.php?threads/hello-grumpyvette-here.278/

I would love too get the website expanded and run a few detailed engine build threads,
with detailed pictures of the process to help the readers/members,
simply because its so frustrating to see so many people wasting both time and money
either doing things incorrectly or wasting money on UN-necessary work while ignoring nearly mandatory areas.
anyone regularly reading the threads on this website, knows we have 7-9-too-maybe a dozen plus, really skilled and experienced members, who can provide a great deal of useful info, that are willing and able to help out and answer questions and provide tips, and several dozen very enthusiastic but a bit less experienced members, who have interesting projects that could use a bit of help, so theres no lack of projects or skills, just not enough detailed threads and reader-ship.
In an ideal world we could get more members posting threads with clear detailed pictures and step by step instructions and members who are local to each other actually getting together to share skills and tools, and it would be great if anyone finds a local competent and experienced machine shop if they posted that info, because theres a great many places that really should be closed for legal reasons (they are scam artists or parts butchers)

I'll get started this evening with the grants. Not many are fill in the blank forms but rather short essays and even then the small amount grants ($25 to $100) are thrown out, not worth the time.
We need membership to go way up so that search engines can pick up the volume and there's plenty of good response for newcomers to stay posting. I work on posting for the sake of keeping relevant tags fresh so that searches and robots pick them up otherwise you would see me post as much as I do on DC.

I have to think of a Business plan that would not fail 1-2 years later.

Everyone should check for unclaimed property at just a few sites. Most grant searches will ask you to check this first.
Missingmoney.com
In Florida: Myfloridacfo.org
Unclaimed.org

There are other sites but start here first. Most accounts are small amounts. Could be some interest on an old account, anything.

I haven't forgotten about you Grumpy. Every time I find something that looks fitting I inquire and find out the appropriations are spent. A lot was taken on the last federal budget squeeze. It's better to check funds then apply and wait 6 weeks to find its no longer available. I might have to do what I've been avoiding and that is to apply for the little grants. There are hundreds upon hundreds to go through and everything has to be read through or you can wind up with limiting the next grants or worse.
So far I did manage to find $250 for retired non working community mentors through AARP and Nationwide Insurance that is repeatable. I find many are on that bogus website "Free Money" - they never pan out and just trap people to buy a series of books

I was just looking at Donations for this Month....Shit....$0.000.
Not good.
I will try & Remember this payday Friday to hit Grumpy with a $10 spot st least.
The younger guys I helped out recent with Tough Tech problems should hit Grumpy with $10 Too.

I think this is a most interesting look at donations, it's NOT about me, BUT where are you on
the list and how much you have gained by Grumpy's dedication. If you have saved $10 from reading
info and direct responses from Grumpy, maybe you could make a donation equal to what you
saved. If you saved $500, then maybe a $50 would be appropriate. You've heard the saying that
NOTHING is free, that's usually true everywhere.

Grumpy won't ask.
