Efi troubles on BBC conversion

A few months ago i purchased a BBC conversion. Fueling it via edelbrock proflo was suggested as a remedy to carburetor milage and tuning issues.

The person doing the work ran up against some fitmit issues. The thermostat housing and efi intake collided. In trying to remedy the problem, the thermostat housing bumped into other items like power steering pump mounts. 2639.jpeg 2664.jpeg 2636.jpeg

Part of the problem is The car is south and I'm in the wild west.

I'm in the process of moving the car to dallas tx area. My sister will take charge of the car there. I ran out of patience with those in the southern location and with my sister taking possession of the car i feel more comfortable as i had little control over the car or project previously.

It has been suggested that the custom mounts be altered to permit the thermostat and manifold to fit.

I've been provided a mechanic with strong skills in the Dallas area. In the meantime I'm looking for fabrication resources should mounts need to be altered.

Also if there are any experts in the Dallas area who would care to consult on a solution, i would welcome their assistance.

Thx

Weiand 6221 Offset Thermostat Housing Adapter For Small Block and Big Block Chev
your problem is VERY COMMON,
if the throttle body and thermostat housing has a clearance issue on some modified EFI intakes, heres the usual cure

one has 4 connection bolt holes to allow it to face two/ or 4 directions allowing you options, obviously only two bolts clamp the adapter, you use two diagonal hole locations

Heh heh... dang thats cool + Truly helpful.

Car will be in Dallas by tomorrow evening.

This is the same efi system that grumpy mentioned in this section of the forum.

So the offset thermostat housing adapter is enroute for installation.

Soon I'll have to get air filter parts. Previously it had the paper element ontop of the carburetor and thats no longer of use with the efi.

I've looked at some of the cold air intakes for sale. I'm not seeing much in the way of bargins. Also I'll have to see what fits up since the parts won't be the same as stock 91 vette setups. The throttle bottle is 90mm. I may have to go the junk yard route and see if i can cobble together something functional/affordable. Any suggestions?

Its one area that needs real carefull thinking.
C4 Vettes pull air from underneath the car front bumper.

I always said years back I will not drive cars in the rain.
But it does happen.
Nice Day here in Illinois.
Next thing you know its Hell in the sky & Tornadoe heading direct at you.
Happened that way last summer while I was driving my 87 Vette.
On Route I80 heading home.
Drove through Hells Fury.
People stopped on the highway.
I did too.
It was open Right Lane.
Punched it to 140.
Tornadoe was right next to me in a Cornfield 100 feet away.
Steering got light.
Car drifted.
I kept on it Full bore.
Blew past

Rain.....it will hydrolock any engine.
It happened to one guy in Florida a few years back driving his C5 Corvette withva 480 Hp LSX B6 crate engine.
It locked up on Wiz .
He was on lunch break.
It livef that engine.

I have been caught in real heavy rain. Engine sucked up water through the stock air induction on my Corvette.
Revved it in neautral. Cleared up.

Only Foolproof Fresh Air Ram air I know of impervious to rain is the the shaker hoodscoop layout on my 1970 TA. Rain never an issue.

Ok Maniac...etc...

So water is a issue of significance.

At present the car has the greenwood induction cowl. So i should consider avoiding the "out front, bottom draw, ram air" configurations.

So if i put some k&n filter coming right off the intake, it could draw in enough cool air through the cowl induction to maintain good performance and avoid destructive rain water being drawn into the intake manifold.

I could get real "mad scientist " on this if it's worth the trouble.

A long snorkle U Tube fabricated 4.00 inch ID Be Ideal. Draw from the backside of the cowl induction hood and winshield base.

Done that way in drag race world.

There is another way I recall now.
It has not been done since 1988 by Reeve Callaway & his record setting 950 Hp Sledgehammer Corvette.
It was driven in Heavy Rain from Connecticut to Ohio Goodyear 5 mile long oval test track. Ran 250 mph then drove home in pouring rain.

Pull air from the Wonder bar up front and the Frame.
Have pictures at home how it was done.

Between 2 friends and myself we can pretty much make anything.
Problem is yout car is not here.
Everyone is too far away.
Still a Small block TPI in my Vette.
No Big Block.
Not an exact copy to pattern off of.

Those Tiny Filter elements are Restrictive. The Big Block will suck it in Flat as a pie WOT action likely.

Yes.

Back 2007- 2010 on Corvette Forum before I met Grumpy on Digital Corvette Forum in 2011 there was a C4 Corvette engine lost weekly from Heavy Rain Driving through.
Nationwide.

C'mon, how much water are we talking about? We used to "steam clean" combustion chambers by pouring water down the carb.
And then there is water injection - done on purpose to cool the combustion chamber.

This sounds more like you are pissing on my leg and trying to tell me it's raining.

Enough to fill all 8 cylinders in seconds.
C4's & all later Vettes are Hoover Vacuum Cleaners.
Anything gets sucked up.
Hang all 8 rods out the engine from Hydro Lock instant from Rain water.

Been driving & working on mine since 2007.
