I don't know how many times I have stopped the truck and got out to talk to people about cars like this and most (95%) of the time, IT'S NOT FOR SALE.
Either
#1 It's a project that the owner is going to EVENTUALLY going to never get around to
#2 They are either going to pass it down to thier children or it already belongs to the children.
#3 It's simply not for sale. Most of the time very rudely and before you can even get a full sentence out.
#4 it's already sold, just waiting for the person who paid for it 2 years ago to come pick it up.
#5 It's for sale at 3 times what it would be worth completely restored.
I'm a car guy and always have been, I hate to see a car abused like that.
Some people just get pissed that you even have the gumption to stop and ask.
I once found a 1965 GT500 Convertible the engine was sitting in the back seat.
top was down probably not even one good panel on the whole car.
Never even got to look under the car. There was no was to look under it.
I swear it looked like the body had rusted off the frame and sat on the ground around it.
It was so deep in the mud around it you could not open the doors.
I tried everything to buy the car. I don't know why, but it was a sentimental thing.
I just hated to see it sitting in the barn like that.
The owner was in his 70's and he said he bought the car new and the clutch went out and that is why he parked it. He pulled the engine to freshen it up. and never did anything else to it.
It had been sitting in the barn for 40 years. And I was the only one that had ever asked about it. But the car under no circumstances was for sale at any price.
He kept saying....... Some Day, and that he thinks with the prices these cars are bringing at Barrett Jackson he thinks the car is worth $50- $60K just the was it is.

Who are we to judge? If people don't have garages, interest, respect, class, intelligence, fiscal insight - are willing to let very special cars go all to hell in a basket - in fields, ditches, yards, forests, bug-ridden lawns and cattle ranges, who are we to say they're insane and shortsighted?

Damn You were Not Kidding about People around You in Pennsylvania Richard.

I have to get a Better job where I work just 5 days a week.
Or become self employed.
Make it out where your at.

The Gift of Talk & small chat with Crazy People.
I have been doing it since 1974 when I was 4 years old.
Win them over.

its a damn shame the cars were left to rot,
most of those cars look too be well past the point of being reasonably restored at a cost ,
that would make the process worth the effort and time even if manual labor cost are ignored totally

I was hoping you had a reason to get out this way this year Brian. I have your transmissions, a nice Low mileage Th400 with transfer case. Can’t seem to sell it so I will try to get some work done in trade.
I bought it 5 years ago from a mechanic with legal troubles.
The tag says:
ATI with: SFI SuperCase and Chevy Bell, 300M 1 -3/16 input shaft #406100
Steel count 8 forward 8 direct 5 intermediate. HD clutches. Super pump and adj. reg. #405058

I was told it would work in the 71 Suburban but it would be hard shifting. I wouldn’t ever get around to do it anyway.

It's a Street Outlaws Pro Mod style Turbo 400.
Takes a special custom torque converter to use it.
Likely has a Trans brake.
Usually no auto shift setup.
Transbrake has no auto shift feature.
4x4 Turbo 400 has a special output shaft.
3 different lengths made.
Application specific to model of 4x4 Transfer case attached.

No paid vacation days at current job.
Take a new job no vacation days paid till 1 year later.
Self employed be best.
Must have paying customers and workload.
Biggest issue.
Even Bill written out they often still do not pay.
Reality today.

Like to Richard.
Gas is expensive again.
Seems Ok till you drive 900 + miles per week like me for work commute.

Got the Corvette back.
Driving it
Save money again.

Bought another Turbo 400 about 3-4 weeks ago.
From a 1979 Chevy Blazer 4x4. 400 sbc engine equipped original.
Good deal made,$.

Have to change the output shaft .
No biggie.

OH there’s plenty more cars around here! I wish you guys could see the dark blue with white stripes, 1970 Chevelle SS cowel induction, LS-6 Convertible with white leather interior has been sitting in a Levittown, PA carport since it was brand new. Kids have been steeling parts off it, tree branches on the roof. I was their paperboy, I walked their overweight Beagle named “Penny” with her belly dragging on the ground (I felt sorry for the poor dog) later I was a contractor working at their house, you would think I would have an “in” with those owners - nope! They told me it was too much car for them, then it was a gas guzzler during the oil embargo decade of the ‘70s. In the ‘80s they said cars made in the US are junk anymore, so they will be getting the Chevelle back on the road and in the late ‘90s their last excuse to me was they are glad they kept the car. The stock market destroyed their 401k so this car will be their retirement money, it’s worth a fortune.
Ironically 2 blocks away a neighbor has over a dozen model 770 Amph, Sitting in a small neighborhood yard rotting into the dirt. They of course missed the boat (hmmm) those cars are way off the peak prices of early 20o3.

I have never seen an LS6 Chevelle Convertible with factory Leather interior.
Definite Rare.
Usually only found in Impalas.
Pontiac Bonnevilles.
Cadillac.

I never pictured Pennsylvania back woods.
Kentucky Yes.
Been there Twice Now.
Real Backwoods there.

I’ve seen just 2 ever and one of those was in an artical. I know there is no way to get AC but leather is rare.

That one vette in the field of golden wheat and stormy sky is not one the I took, not in PA.
PA is all rural outside of the cities

That transmission does not have the optional trans brake but it does have the automatic valve body.
That trans was originally built for racing, just before I got it it was changed to a streetable setup for a twin turbo 1992 3500 Silverado 454 bored and stroked

It's worthwhile hanging onto that Turbo 400.
I can not get your way anytime soon.
Have to work to pay the bills and feed the family.
Still the major income provider.
Wife is working but part time at the local college.
She does not want to work full time no more.

I am a bit like you.
Always looking for a business oppurtunity.
Everyone Wins $$$$$$.

Ok To stash parts Richard.
I do it too.

You getting that 1970 Chevelle LS6 Convertible be a nice prize.
If it's restorable and likely is it has to be worth a solid $20 k as is.

Where do you find these cars Rich you know I'm from Pa. and there is nothing to find around here

Hi Ray!
You’ll laugh when I tell you this story.

Back in the beginning when I started collecting fine art and the better period antique furniture I met this old man, who, with his son, ran a country auction at their local Fire Hall.

Between the two of them they had the brain power of gnat, but they knew how to sell ice to Eskemos. Their day job was as father and son carpet layers, but primarily they spent their time looking for antiques to fill their auction.

One day these 2 had the bright idea to become Exterminators. As (really cheap) Exterminators they could get into (a lot) of people’s homes, their basements, attics, garages and out-buildings if they had them, rooting through people’s stuff looking for items to sell, or buy outright at times. When they finished looking they would say “Hey, I noticed you have a nice oil lamp and a nice Persia rug up in the attic, would you consider selling them? Here’s my card, my son and I run an auction and I know I can get you top dollar selling through the auction!”

I was their contact for identification of certain things, among which was collectible cars. These 2 would walk around the property and take pictures with their phone and send it to me. They also hunted, never catching anything, but always managed to spot a rotting gem in the woods.

Try finding the front left and right grills for a 1970, they’re hard to find on a true 1970! Worth about $2,000 - if you could find them.
