Before you get too far into the engine look into the Transmission.
1984 did not get a good 700R4.
1st year the C4 Got a decent 700R4 was 1987. It has an auxiliary valvebody.
Still weak spots.
300 Hp is what they can take bone stock till failure 1984-1996 700R4 & 4L60E.
Need $4000 to put a 4L80E in.
The 4+3 Super T10 with Doug Nash overdrive parts no longer available to overhaul it.
Turbo 400 done 2 times I have seen.

Guys used to replace the 4+3 with a,1989-1996 Black Tag or Green Tag ZF.
Rebuild parts for the ZF C4 M6 have dried up too.

Tremec 5.
Tremec 6.
Need real $$$$. 7-8 k to pull off.

1 guy installed a Muncie 4 speed in his C4 I recall.

If a 700 R4 Auto A4 Most practical purposes your stuck with it.

Turbo 400 swap least amount of money spent in theory.
Welding fab work required.

Just forwarning.
C4 is a nice car.
Achilles heel has always been transmissions.
C5 Gen Corvette the same too.

Thanks. I've been on the lookout for a late 80s early 90s 30 spline 700r4 core. Would love to find a complete l98 drive train of the same era. Roller ready block and better tranny.

The Facebook C4 Groups may be a good place to look .
I am in a few of them.

the 1984 corvette has a decent potential, several guys I know and have helped work on their cars really like them, but the OEM, intake heads and cam are all restrictive.
if you check out the web site threads youll find lots of related useful info

What do you think about replacing the cfi setup with a holley sniper system with upgraded top end? My goal is to get close to 400hp.

This is my second 84. First was totaled while I was pumping gas. A 16 year old girl drove across the hood with her fathers dodge one ton pickup.

At the time I had collected many parts including an offy crossram with custom top plate, 2.13" throttle bodies, 7747 dynamic efi ecm, 195 cc aluminum heads, and 400 sbc short block. Unfortunately I sold everything after receiving the insurance check.

I am looking around this morning for 1987 - 1991 TPI 350 engines and transmissions.
Worth some money now.
Used to be give aways.
Supply must be drying up.

The 1984 Block & crank are OK.
It has factory Forged TRW pistons.
1985 year Corvette also.
Flat tappet cam installed.
Flat tappet cam used in Corvette till 1987.
1987 is the 1st year of the Hydraulic factory roller cam in the Corvette.
