It may be the law in Kennesaw to own a gun, but the police department says it isn't actually enforced.
Many locals CNN spoke to assumed that the law dated back to the town's founding, but it was actually only enacted in 1982. "It was meant to be kind of a crime deterrent," said Lt. Craig Graydon, who's been with the Kennesaw Police Department for over 30 years.
"It was also more or less a political statement because the city of Morton Grove,
Illinois, passed a city ordinance banning handguns from their city limits."
Back then, the town had a population of just a few thousand.
Over three decades later, the law is still on the books.
Today, Kennesaw, a town of about 33,000 people, has had one murder in the last six years and a violent crime rate of below 2%.
But it's unclear whether that has anything to do with the gun law.
City officials say their relationship with the community is a key factor in maintaining public safety. "We can't say that just that gun law contributes x number of percent to why we have a low crime rate. It may be part of it, but it needs to be looked at from a whole picture," said Graydon. "Don't just look at the ordinance."

Every Red Blooded American born here should have a gun, if for nothing else but to acquire food and protection.

Every State should make this Mandatory.

When have you ever seen a law removed from the books, there are some on there from the 1800s.

The reason is because if the Law can;t get you for one thing, they will get you for another just to get you in the system and then up the pressure to make you a Felon.

yes its a damn shame that we occasionally loose members,
all of the moderator have tried to keep things civil,
and we generally, don,t allow a bunch of verbal conflicts.
opinions are sure to vary a great deal,
but most of us respect the right of others to hold a different view point.
we may never agree but discussions must be kept polite and civil.
 
I think I was civil and he just didn't like my opinion. I am through with him and this discussion about him.

I'm not judging him by his cover, I've known Dorian for years. He mailed a book to me and has
tried to find parts for me in Europe. I've seen how he responds to comments on the forum, so you
see I am judging him by more than his cover.

So I guess you don't vote, since that would be judging them by their cover???
 
I ran into an old friend a couple weeks ago who served in the Michigan Republican Senate. He has since retired from politics. Phil is an avid hunter and fisherman. We use to hunt together back in the 90's on a few hundred acres up in near Escanaba Michigan. He and another half dozen of our friends have a lifetime lease on land that backs to thousands of acres of state land. It was always a good time to get together up there for a week and have fun with old school mates.

We got to talking about how the nation has gone awry, and how it has become so divided. I asked Phil what his thoughts were and he made this statement to me.
" Jim, we have a very secure government. We have locks and safegaurds in place to protect us from alot of the media B.S. you hear about. "

There was alot more to the conversation, but Phil made me feel more a ease with that particular statement.

It sure is nice to run into old friends!
