I've always liked the 1970 barracuda, body style and I'm rather familiar with working on them from past experience, because, my B.I.L. used to own one that was plum crazy purple with a white vinyl roof with a 383 and a manual transmission at one time.
this particular car was listed in the local paper and it was missing the trunk floor, trunk lid, 100% of the dash and interior, the hood, front fenders ,all the wiring, all the gauges, the differential, bumpers, and the rest of the front sheet metal, the drive train, the door panels, seats, head liner, and it had some evedence it had a past engine fire, the vin codes showed it had originally had a 318 ,auto trans,
yet the guy selling it still wanted $11K for the car and made a big point out of saying the rest was "RUST FREE" of course all the parts that were missing could be replaced or repaired, but the add in the papers stated......
"great project car, 1970 barracuda , needs a few repairs but good basic car"
the basic car was re-buildable, but it looked like the owner had parted it out to the point it was no longer profitable and it was in his opinion just taking up space, so he wanted to unload it at a significant profit to some one with big dreams and less than experienced hands at what it would take to do a full restoration.
Ive seen much more complete cars for under $20K , so this would have required a much larger investment in time and cash and skills the potential owner did not have.
thats a shame as it could have been a good project if the base car was a more realistic starting point< think I would have enjoyed installing a 440 wedge engine and a decent dana 60 and a manual trans into the car if it was a project that could realistically be accomplished on a reasonable budget.

Listing what was left might have been a shorter list.

yeah, that might be true.
It really pays to step back and make a list of your basic goals, your skills, and to think through where your going to work on any project you start and think through what you want to have once its built, and realistically think about your budget, and the time it will take, and realize any budget you write out at the start of any muscle car restoration project,is likely to realistically be about 1/3 to 1/2 of the real price,by the time your finished and it runs correctly, you'll have a good grasp on the hobby.
a good many guys start a project without listed goals, It helps to join a local car club to make contacts in this hobby so you can gain skills and get discounts on parts, and having several friends who are building similar cars rarely hurts either.
and if you really don,t know what you want too be driving in a few years you can spend amazing amounts of cash on parts you really can,t use and waste a great deal of time on a car that your never going to be happy driving.
but if you stop and think things through carefully and list the type of car, its engine and drive train, your favorite color, the type of interior, and other, characteristics, and then make a detailed list of the components and tools you,ll need and the skills you might need to acquire to build it, your much more likely to acomplish your goals and be happy with the results.
