I recently had a rather useful HUSKY # 65506 ratchet stop functioning,
husky pro # 65506
http://www.hardwaretoolsonsale.com/Prod ... tchet.html

the ratchet won,t change direction of rotation, now being 100% guaranteed, I knew Id just exchange it.
so I just brought it with me on my next trip to home depot to exchange.
its a rather unique design that has a flex swivel on the head AND a flex swivel mid handle that allows you to configure the handle into a 90 degree crank handle that makes it extremely useful in a few applications.
as I walk into the tool area I see a employee (lets call him ralph) standing out in front, and ask him if he works " in tools" he says hes not in that area, so I ask him where the guy might be that works tools, as I need a tool exchange, and he says, he will be back, and walks away,.. I stand there expecting to hear "RALPH" call someone to help ,too tools, for 10 minutes and when no one shows up, I was PISSED! the attitude SUCKED!
I go to the service desk and ask for a manager , I explain that I want to exchange a defective tool and "ralph"walks over,
and in front of the manager says "youll love this"" QUOTE " you can exchange that at ANY HOME DEPOT"
I look at the manager and say "IM IN A HOME DEPOT!" this is "ANY HOME DEPOT" and I can,t even get anyone to talk to me about what I need so far, the MANAGER is now taking an interest and SHE tells me to just walk over and get a new replacement ratchet, I tell her I looked and don,t see one thats identical, at which point RALPH. says " WERE OUT, BUT ANY HOME DEPOT, SHOULD HAVE THAT!", ignoring RALPH whos obviously an IDIOT! I turn to the manager and point out the part number on the ratchet and ask if she can locate a store that has it in stock, she looks at ralph like the IDIOT he is and goes to the computer and says she doesn,t see any locally so she makes a call, takes my cell phone number and promises to call me back as soon as she locates one, the next day I get a call, that she has located one and as soon as it comes in she will call me to come exchange it!
what became obvious is "RALPH is a total moron thats over paid if hes making minimum wage rates, and that home depot has at least a few better managers with at least some sense, I rarely spend less than $200 a month in home depot, and on average Id bet triple that, per month for various tools, hardware, lawn, home, building supplies etc. is a LOW estimate so getting a darn lifetime guarantee ratchet replaced is hardly a loss to their bottom line

I,M not quite sure, at this point in time, if I,m dealing with well meaning, but totally incompetent employees or just morons that don,t give a crap!
I got this ratchet in the mail today, after waiting two weeks for a replacement for my flex ratchet?

I told the gal on the phone, at home depot customer service, the part number was husky pro 65506, they sent me a STANLEY 7-85-782 now I did get a ratchet that at least in theory cost a similar amount but its not the correct ratchet

after careful measurements I decided why fight these morons, look closely at the two ratchets,

simply swapping the newer ratchets head to the old handle got the old ratchet working with the new head in place of the old defective head on the old handle.
its not a perfect fit but its close and its obvious that home depots having issues replacing the original ratchet under the life time replacement warrantee

BTW my other husky flex ratchet like this just broke, and I use them frequently, so of you know anyplace that sells these please let me know and post a link, as HOME DEPOT, still does NOT have these back in stock

the links to torq-tuf don,t work, but are still up so the pictures there

I just got told HF sell a cheap version
http://www.harborfreight.com/3-8-eighth ... ?hftref=cj

thanks! yeah! does NOT look like the same quality but at least its an option and dirt cheap, so when it breaks you pitch it in the dumpster without tears if its not covered by a warranty

POST NOTE

I stopped by HF and picked up one of their flex ratchets just to try it out and while its not the same, its functional and it seems to be fully usable so far, of course time will tell, and it may be as durable, or more durable that the one it replaced that lasted under 2 years , before the ratchet mechanism failed

grumpy my 3/8" drive air ratchet just quite working it just allows air to squirt out one side, what do I do here?

for a diagram like this, matching your particular ratchet model and brand

Air ratchets REQUIRE FREQUENT RE-oiling
and DRY AIR FLOW,
obviously the quality of the air ratchet matters,
but they ALL,
must be kept well lubed and use dry air, Id suggest spraying some penetrating oil into the air hose connection and into both sides of the ratchet and letting it sit a few hours then re-try it, it may break free and work,

if you don,t keep the moisture content in the compressor air flow very low,
youll have very frequent air tool failures.

(to get it to free up, Id suggest you place it in a plastic bag with enough MMO and some other penetrating oil to cover the ratchet head and let it sit for an hour or som and work the ratchet back and forth manually a few dozen times, it should loosen up)
Do you use air tool lubricant (Marvel Mystery Oil)?

plewsoilm.jpg

you should, use an oil squirt can
to put squirt of MMO into the air inlet port,
with the machinist oil can you should have on hand in any shop
and the ratchets moving head component parts,
before and after every use ,
to prevent the moisture in the air from eventually corroading it internally.

Yeah, the warrantee on a lot of their stuff is not always honored , the way you might expect
I bought a great many of their
LIFETIME WARRANTEE HUSKY MECHANICS TOOLS over the years
now a while back, I bring back a ratchet and a cracked 6 point 1/2 drive, 9/16" socket
I find the exact ratchet is no longer made,so they wanted to sub-a much less sturdy looking design,
and they wanted to replace the 6 point socket with a 12 point,
which I detest as the 12 point sockets seem designed to round off bolt heads,

I really wanted the parts replaced with the same tools as both worked rather well for at least several years of constant use.
yeah back years ago you would go to SEARS and the craftsman tool exchange was pretty fast and simple also,
but obviously SEARS/CRAFTSMAN TOOLS are no longer much of a reasonable option either, now as most of the sears stores near me closed ,
and the A$$holes at the local ACE HARDWARE ,
who carry sears/craftsman tools want you to show a receipt, that you bought it there,
keep in mind the receipts are printed on paper that fades and degrades rather rapidly and copies are not honored.
