Man....Looking on Amazon on Modern Solid State High frequency battery chargers.
All appear to be unreliable POS Fick Junk.
Guys even made & posted Videos of them smoking away.
Not Good.

Some still have Transformers in them. Electronic controls unreliable & often quit working so you can not charge away.
Old School & reliable Inductive transformers. Not all created equal.
Actually alot to simple step down transformer design engineering. Then a quality rectifier 1/2 wave unit of full wave rectifier bridge.

In the Midwest Winter dead batteries do happen. Head Lights get left on. Dome lights get left on.
Most of the fancy solid state units will not charge a dead battery.

Looking like Vintage old school battery chargers still the best if they are taken care of & in good shape.

I found 2 top notch models for drag racing pit use for cars that run no alternator between rounds.
Not cheep.
Moroso & XS.

Looking for something with higher amperage charge rate & safe for AGM Batteries like Optima Red Top.
I will have 4 of them now total in my cars come This Tuesday.
My Small Snap On 4 amp electronic charger still works & is about 10 years old now. It was expensive but has not quit yet, made by Pantene electronics actually.

I Like.
Going to buy it soon.
Or ask for Christmas.

All Junk out there new otherwise.

XS Power & Moroso best made battery chargers for race cars otherwise.
Actually brutal on crap battery chargers, have to charge batteries fast for the next drag strip round.
Leave the alternator belt off of drag cars or no alternator because they turn 7,000- 10,000 RPM crank speeds.
Can not keep a belt on unless you run a 5 inch diameter alternator pulley, still fly off.
Unless you run a Pontiac V8, Alternator belt is a short run on a Poncho, stays on the belt with a 5 inch diameter pulley.

I need a charger/jumper, but I’m as confused as ever on what to buy.
Any device that works with the problems I deal with most,
1. Cars that sit too long between use and the battery has nothing left, I need to recharge or enable a “Ready to start” mode.
2. A charger that will revive a battery that has been sitting too long at zero.
3. Keep a battery ready to perform at anytime.

Need several chargers actually.
AN Old School Vintage Transformer based Charger.
A modern Electronic Charger preferable transformer based.
A modern 4 -6 amp charger maintainer.
2 new chargers need to be AGM Optima Red Top compatible.

How can you tell which one has a transformer and which don’t?

It was not that long ago Grumpy you could spend $40-100 on a battery charger and it would last a lifetime.

Snap On is excellent.
Getting older its not so easy to afford any longer

I must be loosing brain cells. There are so many chargers, i can’t remember what each one does better or less than the other - I need a comparison chart

I have not found such an article like Consumer Reports Magazine did in the 1980's we both recall.

I found a Vintage 1950's or early 1960's battery charger I want to go get in Chicago, $35.

Have the Big floor around models.

I want one small enough I can place under the hood of my cars & trucks & charge away in bad weather in the winter or rain.
Only the T/A stays garaged here.

Important items

1. The engine start up (is 200 amp the best)
2. Checking battery Alternator check function
3. Small battery diagnostics - small battery care
4. Automated monitoring and self adjustments from complete deep discharge to maintaining highest amperage starting
5. Long term trickle charging

What I have read so far with Reviews left on Amazon with modern Electronic microprocessor controlled chargers is that none can charge a Dead Battery.
Only A Vintage Battery charger can Richard.
