1986 iron head l98 corvette valve spring question

Just an update, ordered my first intake and using vortec base and pairing to afr190 vortec heads, so be coming apart again in months to follow and had intake painted so ken said probably have it to me in acouple weeks and I'll add pics of it when I get it.

sounds like the basis for a quick & responsive combo,
please post pictures of the components when you get them,
and once installed and post your impression of the way the combo runs

I rather enjoy the , local Saturday night "run what your brought"
racing, yes your limited to about a 13 second car,
but its still fun to watch because its mostly guys in street driven cars
what screws it up is theres always some guy that could run low 10 seconds with $5000 plus in computer controlled equipment,
that basically lets the car run the race, and click off boringly consistent runs
making the guys with basic street driven cars at a huge disadvantage in the long term.
when I first got my 1985 corvette it would consistently run about 14.5 seconds in its O.E.M. condition,
once I tweaked a few things and added a few parts .
consistent 13.3 second runs.
at this point I had a great deal of fun with the corvette.
yeah I decided to tweak the combo a bit, changed cams, several times, ported heads, added a 3200 rpm stall,
swapped to a custom ported and significantly modified stealth ram, much larger injectors, a new ignition, added slicks,
added a better 3" full length and well designed low restriction, exhaust ,
and low 11 second runs, with a 250 hp, wet nitrous kit ,
and getting told I could no longer race the car was a huge P.I.T.A.

ignoring reading the links and sub-links is always a mistake

Definitely, also haven't decided 100 percent on this yet but might be doing a fast ez efi 2.0 setup for engine management, know dont need it but really be nice to not have to deal with proms and have something more up to date and tunes on own...

Well should have intake in next few weeks, hes still working on it but has everything from the foundry, and justed wanted to share my new lights I got, found a guy years back that smokes them and clear coats them and set on my truck has been on for almost 6 years now and still look like day I got them. Just like the look of lights themselves without covers on etc. He uses new and used oem lights depending on what he in stock but does a great job and light output through them is still very good

New ones and showing light output

Well after a few months the first has arrived, very nice peice, definitely bigger runners and shorter runners as well, the picture does not do justice just how massive this thing really is. Came with all the gaskets, bolts, brackets and all. Waiting on my heads, and various other things and how I'm going to plumb all the fuel and electrical to make a cleanest install as possible. Keep you updated

properly matched to the correct parts that FIRST TPI intake produces a very noticeable boost in power,
over almost any other intake designed for brisk SBC street/strip type, performance.
install it on a 383-406 sbc with about 10.5:1-11:1 compression, carefully matched, decent 195-210cc heads,
a free flow exhaust, with long tube headers and low restriction exhaust systems, and and a 3000 rpm stall converter or manual transmission, and a 3.55:1-3.73:1 rear gears
and a cam like a crane 119661-or crower 00471 and of course 36 lb-38 lb injectors and you transform a TPI corvette.

Also to the people using vortec setups, I like to use an intake gasket that has steel in it (never had a car come back at any time with a leak).
Picture shows a aftermarket regular gasket on top (fiber gasket) and the gasket I use is on the bottom, has steel inner with rubber molded too it. Its alittle more money cause only comes in a kit for entire intake but worth it too me to not have to take it apart year down the road. Part number of kit with that gasket is ms 98000 T.

Also decided to change my exhaust for the third time and should have my Melrose system in 2 weeks, they said it was backorder, ended up also going with the fast ez efi 2.0 system with there dual sync distributer and a fast ignition (know don't need it but can use it if I ever decided to swap)

Mocked up to make sure bolts line up from the first base to afr to block...

Well heads, rockers, guides etc all set to go, will say for anyone in the future the base hits the oil pressure adapter in the back of the motor and I had to get a 1/8 npt 45° adapter that is alot smaller than the factory (advanced auto has it part number ptf-69c) to put in place of factory adapter.

Mock up upper to check distributor to upper, also the gaskets I previously listed that have the metal core you cannot use, they sit up higher and when installed base does not sit flat so have to use the paper gasket supplied with it from first.... the overall size of the top end is huge compared to what it was

yes, its slowly but surely improving and will be a fun car once its completed,
I hope the headers are designed to work and provide adequate clearance for the spark plug angles,
you ordered on the heads you've selected.
