you really can use a car transport trailer!

It took me awhile to save for my Duramax . Then another while to save for the 27" trailer, but I can tow most anything safely down the road. We store the Duramax for the winter and bring it back out around the end of May. It was just too damn expensive to drive on the salty winter roads around here. I rarely get to drive it because the wife claimed it was HER summer ride! lolView attachment 11741
Look at that Awesome Square Body Race Truck out back !

25 years ago I had a heavy tag dump trailer built. ( should of gone with a gooseneck)
One day a BOY wanted to borrow it with his s-10.
After some explaining to him, I said lets go hook it up.
Well, it seems his springs were not up to the task. It sat down on the overloads and squished those 4 ply tires!!
It weight 4400 lbs against his 3400 lb toy truck. He was schooled.!!

There was a video on Facebook a local friend posted back in the winter.
A scale model car and truck was on a treadmill with a scale trailer.
Demonstrated physics involved towing.
Light car lost control immediately crashed.
Weighted scale truck did just fine.
Have to find that video.

I know all to well what the effects of overloading are..

Many years ago I owned a 1997 dodge v-10 4x4 with a GVWR of 8800lbs and a GCWR of 12,700lbs.
One day I was in a bind and had to get a mid size excavator down the road about 5 miles. Well, I jirry rigged an air tank to release the air brakes from the trailer (first mistake) and connected the trailer to the pintle hitch on the truck (second mistake). The truck surprisingly did not seem to complain trying to move the trailer, so I thought that being this was a road that was not traveled much and seen little traffic... I,d go for it. I was tooling down the road about 40 mph when it hit me that there was a stop sign up ahead. As soon as I touched the brakes, that trailer sent my truck sideways!!!!! Talk about a pucker factor! Well, I released my foot from the brake and floored the gas pedal and by a stroke of luck I got the truck straiten out. I down shifted the automatic
trans to help slow me down to a speed where I could use my brakes to get the rig stopped. I learned a very valuable lesson that I should have known in the first place. NEVER use an under rated tow rig!!! NO MATTER WHAT!! It,s not worth the risk for you or anyone else.

The same happened to me in my Suburban about 3 years ago.
My Dad's Dakota broke down.
I was alone. Loaded it on backwards. Big mistake. Went sideways at 40 mph.
Trailer was in front of me for a second.
I lived !

Yes, some owners manual will have info also.. I forgot about that.
I never thought of looking till today with the main topics being towing with trucks and a good trailer.
Some of the best advice from Grumpy I received is all here.
Having a good 4x4 Truck and Trailer a must have like he said.

Complications elsewhere today.
Actually not the 1st time.
Won't be the last.

I just ask Grumpy.
He always answer me.

Going to sandblast & paint this summer with my boys.
Pretty sure I have towed close to 5000 miles since 2012 with this trailer.
Looks like hell but its built like a tank !

Its Mickey Thompson Towing his Challanger 1.
Its the year 1959, No supercharger installed yet No hoodscoops. That came 1960.
Trailer not too fancy like my own.
Its being towed by his 1959 Pontiac Bonneville with a 389 ci Pontiac V8 engine with 300 Hp.

There is another photo I have seen where a fancy trailer was built for the Las Vegas premier show of his Challanger 1 to the world & his announcement to the world to break 400 mph with a piston engine driven car.

Challanger 1 weighed around 7000 lbs ! 4 Pontiac V8 engines.
