about 40 years ago I got a call one evening about 1 am,
from a cop and paramedic (both guys knew me)
asking if I wanted a steer for free, it seems one had busted through a fence and got hit by a car and had two broken legs
the owner wanted nothing to do with the responsibility for the steer or the car damage
the catch... I would need to put it down, and pack it out from the medium it was on, location,
I showed up with a pick-up, the butchering tools and a 357 mag revolver ,
and two hunting buddies, the cop said I could shoot the steer but he was not allowed too.
inside of 30 minutes we had the steer shot in the ear, and roughly quartered and in the truck bed, the less edible parts like guts in a dozen large trash bags
the bags wound up disposed of in several dumpsters, I spent the rest of the night with two guys help, reducing large parts into 2 lb freezer paper wrapped packs in my freezer
and several large coolers for the other guys, we all got well over 100 -200 lbs of meat each for our efforts.
everyone but the steer thought it was a great deal, well the wife was not impressed, she was not thrilled , but liked the steaks
