Looking for a machine shop in the North East North Carolina or South East Virginia area that is known for working with early Hemi motors. I can take the hemi to Joe Blow down the street but I can't be sure that he'll know the difference between the hemi and a 350 chevy.

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks ya'll.

What's the difference between a 53 331 Hemi and the 56 354 Hemi besides the 23 cu in?
I see 354 more often than the othe Hemis.

51-53 331 Chrysler Hemi's have a cast extended bell housing and are rather unique. You just don't see too many of these in T Bucket or Hot Rod applications. There's no real advantage to the 331 it's just the Chrysler ugly duck. Now days everyone seems to think that an early Hemi, Chrysler, Dodge or Desoto, have some real value and ask huge dollars. I see 354's online for $2,000 and up. I bought the 53 331 for $350.
It'll go to the machine shop for cleaning and crack checks. If it comes back crack free then we'll come up with the build plan.

Hot Heads near Pilot Mtn. N.C. has everything you need for any hemi engine.

Thanks, they do! I've just never been able to nail down a machine shop associated with Hot Heads. I'm an active member of the forum and have asked the question to the HH folks.

They don't sell complete engines or blocks, just all the other Acc, parts. Any COMPETENT machine shop should be able to handle the block prep for you on a hemi.

Love to find a 392!!!! Actually there are several I'd like to get my hands on, 354, 392, Desoto 345...

Most of the machine shops around are competent with SBC, BBC, Ford Modular and LS motors, and even the III Gen Hemi motors. There is a local machine shop that did really good work on a SBC for me a while back. I might go talk to them.

Thanks for the reply's.

Finding somebody with a Torque plate to hone early Hemis is tough.
Buy your own. Cost is $600-800.

Yikes! I guess enjoying the old technology has it's limitations. But I tell you what, there nothing like the sound an early hemi makes! Thanks for the info.

I'd be curious to know the name of the shop in Washington, IL.

Hemis are Kool.
Expensive if you don't have the longblock to begin with.
Just can't afford myself present but I do Admire them.
