What's worth noting in my research Grumpy,
The 1965 Olds 425A Heads have been flow bench tested and despite having smaller valves they outflow the 1970 Olds W30 455 "F" Heads with larger 2.07" intake valves.
About 180 cc Runner Volume On "A" Heads.

Cheap Torque and HP the goal.
Outperform SBC stroker for far less $.

Funny, I had a 64, 65 and a 67 Cutlas, one after the other in the mid 70's and they all had the 330 Rocket engines. Even back then I believed these cars were fast for just a 330! I stepped on the gas one day and the force snapped the 2 front bolts on the drive's seat (I was about 175 back then).
I have a 425 dual quad from a 65 Riviara that I trying to sell right now. To get a decent price I'll have to rig it for running or take it off of CL as people are pissing me off with their low-ball offers

Make a test stand and then You Tube Video the 425 Buick running Richard.
Its not an easy to find engine today .

No, it's not. I wish I had the whole car! It was about the time when the Government was scraping cars and an old lady had this Pewter GS to trade in for a Toyota Camry. The Dealer called me and we made a deal. On the day of the sale a salesman's kid was playing in the car and the next thing you know the kid jumps out and moves the floor shifter and the car rolls off a 20ft retaining wall landing on the rear. The deal was off and a scrapyard gets it. I got some sence and bought the drivetrane. I got a deposit on the rear but it's never been picked up. I gave up searching for the right car that needs a correct engine, now I just want it gone by July 6.

Mecum is coming to Harrisburg next month and my wife has agreed to keep quite for one last time. I entered my last bike for that sale and I'm only less then 2hrs away from home. There's just one car I must get.

GTO ?

I have been looking at the Early Wide Track Pontiacs lately Richard.
Trophy 425 389ci Tri Power cars 4-speed.
Hard to find.

A GTO, I wish. Actually the car is a late entry, the seller is bringing it just 3 days before the auction so it's selling off list. I chromed most of this car and now he's broke.
It's a 56 Eldorado Convertible w/AC. Wife agrees only because the whole family can go out together. The car is finished so if successful it'll be the first collector car I ever bought that I can ride and show from day one.
However . . . . .
I do have my eyes on a few early Impala convertibles with big blocks, one 67 GTO Convertible and a beautiful 70 Chevelle SS 454 convertible LS5 (Why not the LS6? I like my A/C and other options more than a few extra horses). And lastly anything that winds up being a missed buy).

Brian, explain "Trophy" cars, are you talking about race cars? If so good luck! True Vintage race cars that finished are sky high anymore!

The early Cadillacs are nice Richard.
I worked on a 1956 2-door Deville last year with my old job.
Rebuilt all 4 wheel cylinders. New brake shoes. Repacked the front wheel bearings. Replaced the leaking water pump, New pump from Kanter classic auto parts.
Test drove it . Nice smooth runner. Hydramatic 4- speed auto.
Respectable power. 4bbl Caddie V8, think a 365 ci.

Your not really into racing anyhow Richard.
Corvette world has changed.
Hellcats. Thinking most will drop out.

Dumping a bunch of $ into a Corvette unless your guaranteed to Win not a good investment.

Glad I am a Pontiac guy yet. ;)

It was an engine option from 1959-1961-1962.
The 389 ci V8 engines.
There was the 395 A Trophy Engine, & the 425 A Trophy engine.
It was the working man's daily driver hotrod race car.
Cammed hot but easily driven daily Mon-Fri 9am - 5pm.
Start in 100 F & -20 F temps easily.
Come Saturday & Sunday go to the Dragstrip and do heads up drag racing.

Most were 4-speed equipped. Some automatics built too.
4- bolt main 389 blocks all.
Forged steel crankshafts used.
Forged Steel rods.
Pretty hot hydraulic cams.
Tri Power equipped.

But daily reliable driving fun too.

Pretty rare today.

333 HP & up to 348 Hp I recall on the 425 A Pontiac Trophy engine Richard.

They did win races. Forgotten legend Poncho.

My 1965 Olds 425 A 4-bbl engine.
I cleaned and painted it 1963 SD421 Blue.
Just love the color.
Last ran in April 2011.
