A Forum friend in Chile, South America.
He requested 3.45 gears and what I used.
He has a 1987 Corvette Coupe instead of Convetible like mine.
They don't have drag race trees & timeclocks as the USA.
A flagger starter & 1st to cross the finish line wins.
His Vette an automatic like mine.

Cool tach!
Correct for my 1963 GP.
I tried since 2007 getting one of them 70 Bird Man.
Always outbid on Ebay. Bid as high as $450.00 and lost the auction.
Sometimes these Tachs sold for $750.00.

I did a search recent.
Buy it now or best offer.
$90.00 & free shipping. Made it mine.
Had it in just 2 days.

My Grand Prix is an automatic Trans car.
Factory Vacuum guage mounted in the Console.
Stickshift manual cars had the Tachometer.
Not many fullsize Pontiacs were 4-speeds.
Especially the Grand Prix.
99 % were auto trans.

Me too John.
Will be next year in 2015.
Start my new job in the morning.
I turned down the job working in dealerships.
I am too old to work Flatrate pay scale.
Cavet was after 3 months I went to flatrate pay.
Thought about it hard.....Family to support.
No work or not enough work Bills don't get paid.
My family starves.
Told them Thank You but Not for me.
Still a Mechanic.
My other New Job pays by the Hour.
Just in time for the Hoidays coming soon.
Been sitting around and Job searching since 9-11-14,
Sucked bad.
Bills paid.
No real play $,
This 455 was a must have. Just too hard to find today & price was right.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

You can't beat that congrats on the new job. I know I wandered away from being a mechanic due to money reasons. I have seen a few friends wander into being mechanics on industrial equipment for pay. Working at factories fixing there equipment or building boilers industrial size huge stuff. Still turning a wrench though.

CONGRATS ON ANOTHER GREAT DEAL ON A PONTIAC ENGINE! I know they are darn hard to find around here!

one of my first jobs was a heavy line mechanic apprentice at a chevy dealership, they paid about $4 an hour back in 1968 and they gave me mostly brake jobs and u-joint replacement, radiator repairs water pump replacement etc. I soon learned that going back to college, and working on my engineer degree and working for AT&T was preferable and keeping the cars as a hobby was smarter, mostly because I got a steady pay check and unlimited over time working for AT&T at the time while THEY PAID FOR COLLEGE at NIGHT...I have regretted not getting ALL the degrees I could have on THEIR DIME, but NOT quitting the dealer ship mechanics apprentice program.

How was your first day?

I,m sure your asking about 87vette81big first day,Brian I hope you have a good first few days.

but I sure remember my first day at the CHEVY DEALER SHIP, and I know how I learned to fit in there AND at AT&T,
I learned early theres a simple secret to fitting in, its offering to actually WORK,vs trying to get by and collect a pay check for standing around !
I found that like most jobs the older guys tend to look at the new guy as a resident moron UNTIL you prove differently, and show your not only willing to work but really want to learn!
and you start by offering too help do any and everything that needs doing, and that usually starts with cleaning obviously messy areas ,without being told to do so and asking permission first, to clean tools, or, arrange stock, or help on jobs, showing some initiative helps and offering to do the less enjoyable jobs just to learn new skills sure helps break the ice.
NEVER act like you know more than the older guys (even if you do!) but be willing to jump in and help, and if you do happen too know something, do it, and let them see, rather than tell them! and be sure to thank anyone willing to teach you new skills

I am the mechanic making repairs, installs, & replacing related.
Also will learn all about injection pumps & overhaul.
New area for me.
Smaller shop but nationwide company.
Job security for winter at least.
Can't make the 100 mile one way daily drive to Chicago like I did in the past with winter comimg up.
