20-30 GPM is a lot of oil!
The Pontiac V8 oil pump is superior to the SBC.
AT LEAST GOOD AS BBC BLUEPRINT RACE HIGH VOLUME.

WE WERE ALWAYS TOLD BY CHEVY GUYS PONTIAC. IS NO GOOD.
BAD OILING.
OPPOSITE IS TRUE. EXCELLENT .
THE STOCK OIL FILTER IS THE PROBLEM BIRD MAN.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Figure Remote oil filter layout will cause 2-3 gallon per minute free flow loss.
Oil cooler stacked plate RACE EARLS Another 1-2 gallon per minute less.

I put in a Melling standard pump with a 7 Qt Canton RR pan on my 400 when I put it in the bird and been using standard Wix filter. Thinking about going remote 1 or 2 filter setup because the Hooker Supercomp sidepipe headers I'm putting on will make it harder to get at the filter.

A few months away from building Phil.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

I have a stock 1964 Pontiac 389-421 Straight Oil 90 degree oil filter adapter here Grumpy.
I glass beaded and sonic cleaned a few months back.
THE PONTIAC ENGINEERS DESIGNED INTENTIONAL FOR THE FIBER BYPASS VALVE TO OPEN ALWAYS ON THE GAS WIDE OPEN THROTTLE.
BYPASS THE OIL FILTER 100 %.
FULL FLOW UNRESTRICTED .
NEVER NOTICED PRIOR BUT ITS PROFILED CHANNELED FOR MAX OIL VOLUME BYPASS MODE.
12-13 GALLONS PER MINUTE MEAN OIL FLOW VOLUME 60-80PSI PRESSURE .
REAL EASY TO GIVE EVEN MORE FLOW.
REMOVE THE FIBER DISC AND SPRING BY TAKING OUT THE 1/4" HEAD SCREW.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Its Amazing Precision Cast Aluminium Part.
For MAX OIL FLOW IN BYPASS MODE RACING HARD.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Since its anybody's guess what the REAL WORLD OIL FLOW IS WITH MOST STOCK LOW BUCK OIL FILTERS AND PERFORMANCE REPLACEMENT ,
Its worthwhile investigating the SYSTEM 1 OIL FILTER AGAIN.

Been reading about remote oil filter kits failing.
Blowing up and oil everywhere.
Figure it will take $1,000 Cash to RACE PLUMB CORRECT.

System 1 less $$$.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

Researched today on System 1 filters.
A good option.
Even the shorty filters flow 24 gallons per minute 30 microns.
Tall flows 30 gallons per minute.
0W -50 weight oil ratings.

The original AC PF-7 Oil Filter was Pontiac V8 Specific.
Exact specs lost with time.
Did find NOS .Very Kool.
May buy a NOS PF-7.

System 1 & Retain factory bypass the way to go.
If Filter can flow at least 12-13 gallons per minute the Bypass in filter adapter will never open.
Tight fit on the T/A With my Hooker Super Comp 2" inch primary tube headers I recall.
But K& N HP2003 Does fit nice.

Re: 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 RPO L-75 325HP & 455Ft/lbs Brought

i think brian that at the end of the day, the oils and the oil filters we have available today from companies like valvoline, mobil 1, wix, etc... are so infinitely superior to the oils used back when these motors were first engineered, that you probabl cannot fuck up the oil issue with the heavy duty robust oil system that you have already...

my opinion, put a tall wix racing filter on it, let the bypass do what it as designed to do, and run 10w30 VR1 in that thing

save your 1000 dollars in oil systems mods for a direct port nitrous kit,

300 shot

separate fuel cell for the nitrous

methanol instead of race gas in the nitrous fuel side

Craig Hendrickson from HO posts over on transamcountry.com under the handle ORIGINALHO. Bruce pissed off a bunch of people over the years and so I've never dealt with him. I've had good dealings with the Butlers in the past. I'll probably work with Jim at Central Virginia Machine Services to come up with a plan when it comes time to build a big power engine for my car. I have full access to an old school machine shop here a friend owns. While my friend is a very good machinist/engine builder he doesn't keep up on the latest Pontiac tech. So I'll probably source through Jim, do my own machine work at the shop here & build here with guidance from my bud.

I've been a member at PY forum for many years but haven't posted there much. Now got taken over by Ames and I haven't figured out how to get on the forum since.

The SD455 / RAM AIR 5 80psi M54 F oil pump flows almost double what the SBC Melling HV Oil pump does Phil.
No conventional oil filter can keep up including WIX. Too Fucken Restrictive.

Todays off the shelf oils suck asshole fuck shit Phil
Took the Zinc out.
