So I'm new to this forum and I'm 17 looking to buy a new car. I have 6,000 saved up and one car that has caught my eye is a 1994 Corvette. From the pictures and with talking with the owner it is an immaculately cared for car. Interior and exterior and perfect and it has upgraded wider rear tires. 105k miles with rebuilt engine and tranny. It's for sale for 4500. Because the car 'won't spark when trying to start up'. I'm not an expert with corvettes but I know that the Optispark ignition is supposedly terrible. My guess it it could be something as simple as just getting a new 200-400 dollar distributor. The owner does not know what the car needs to get it running. He only knows that it won't spark. Does anyone else know what could be causing this? And how much it would cost to fix? And could I do it myself?

where are you located?

can you pull trouble codes?

are you willing to do the repairs and learn as you go! THIS MIGHT GET RATHER INVOLVED OR IT MIGHT BE A SIMPLE DEFECTIVE SENSOR BUT MORE THAN LIKELY YOULL NEED TO REPLACE THE OPTI IGNITION

your opti ignition may need to be replaced but actually doing a few tests is going to tell you a good deal more, if you do a compression test all cylinders should read within 10% , you can do that without the engine running. ID strongly suggest pulling trouble codes, but if the car looks clean inside and out and theres no coolant in the oil and it passes a compression test ID try to get it as a project for the best price you can, its not running so you can,t check the transmission or engine condition so keep that in mind, but Id buy it at maybe $3500-$4500 depending on it having decent body and interior condition and expect to throw at least $800 into repairs, if the interior or body needs work offer less.
as a quick test ID also suggest pulling the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and trying to start the car to see if the vacuum line has raw fuel in it, if it does the diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator needs replacing, Id check the fuel rail pressure and Id check that the oil pressure sensor is functioning correctly.
IF YOU DECIDE TO BUY THE VETTE AS A PROJECT CAR, DO YOURSELF A BIG FAVOR, buy a factory shop manual youll need it!, AND LOCATE AND JOIN AT LEAST TWO LOCAL CORVETTE CLUBS AND MAKE CONTACTS OFFER TO HELP OTHERS IN EXCHANGE FOR HELP ON YOUR CAR, AND READ ALL YOU CAN
THESE CARS ARE NOT ALL THAT DIFFICULT TO REPAIR BUT PARTS CAN GET EXPENSIVE AND YOU WILL NEED TO LEARN A GOOD DEAL,

below I posted a few links, they contain a great deal of related info and they all have sub-links ,you really should read, by the time you read thru ALL the links and sub links youlll have a MUCH BETTER understanding of what to look for and to test
