I don,t know how most guys feel, but I think the internet is a big help to mechanics
none of us ,
no mather how experienced we are has done every job on every component on every year car or truck,
so having a shop manual sure helps, but your missing a great tool if you don,t have access to internet videos,
that will at times give you some idea how to tackle jobs you might not be familiar with,
or point out a way to do something you might not have thought of or considered.
most old gezzers like myself had mentors that helped them learn the skills required,
but having both some mechanical experience and some visual help if your tackling a new job certainly helps.

I see enough posted info every day that I'm not 100% sure what your refering too,
posting correct details like... make, model, and year, might help
