223, 5.56 or Wylde?

Mark Bradley

Da guy in Newbury
Been many years since I owned a centerfire rifle so I’m building an AR-15.
The intentention is a reliable rifle that will be fun to shoot “with” my wife (NOT AT).
I have been doing research on the 223/5.56 and have a complete lower now.
I am leaning towards a .223 Wylde for the better chamber pressure management when firing 5.56 rounds.
I always like to push the envelope so I will be looking to fire 400+ yards if my eyes will still do it.
I have a coworker that is a licensed FFA and can get whatever I select.

Thoughts??

read this link above

theres no issue having a .223 Wylde chamber, as its a custom chamber designed to safely shoot either commercial 223/5.56 ammo,

and the cost of that either commercial 223/5.56 ammo, ammo, is fairly cheap
which is a big issue if you shoot a good deal.
if you want to extend the 223 range hand load or buy boat tail match 70-75 grain bullets , or ammo.

if your serious about low recoil and long range accuracy youll get a heavy varmit barrel with a 7-or-8 too one twist rate

while the 223 rem can be fired in most 5.56 mm rifles the chambers are not identical nor the pressure levels , so firing the higher pressure 5.56 mm ammo in a 223 rem is not always a good idea

you'll need a decent scope and mounts.
at 300-400 yards you'll want a high quality scope to get the best accuracy
the 30mm tube 50mm lense nikon 4x 16x scope linked below gives excellent long range potential

BTW
you do realize that if your serious about long range accuracy and having a significantly higher impact energy level's there are several options, in larger calibers that will deliver significantly more energy on impact, less wind drift and generally better long range accuracy/
you can start with a 6mm/223
yes youll need to hand-load, but components are cheap , and easy to locate, and youll easily extend the range several hundred yards further

you have lots of options but a 24" heavy stainless fluted barrel, has good velocity, mass and increased surface area, for rapid heat dissipation and good long range accuracy with a matched chromed bolt assembly to reduce fouling makes a good deal of sense

.yeah you can get a cheaper option, but youll be building a rifle with less potential accuracy

I can't buy the parts and full upper assy to build one at this price. Not accurate as some but just as dependable. Look at the bottom at the warranty.

I try to buy a full upper assy with the BCG and charging handle. I have some from Palmetto State and Bear Creek as well as others. Just easier to build like this and most times cheaper than individual parts to assemble

The palmetto State deal is close to the Vietnam Era M16 configuration. And a great deal. I always have extra BCG and other parts since I'm not in the field.
