Over 43 plus years of mixed game hunts out west and in florida, Ive found both the 150 grain speer Loaded for white tail, hogs, and mule deer and 200 gain speer I loaded for my 30/06 for ELK worked on deer ,hogs, and elk ,just fine, dropping deer has been more about correct shot placement than bullet weight in my experience.
personally I have just been loading the 200 grain speers now for several decades , it simplifies things

IVE tried a bunch of loads but settled on the 200 grain speer over 50 grains of WW760 and a 215 federal primer as the best elk/deer load I found, and Ive loaded that for almost every 30/06 rif;e in our camp, and Ive had only positive comments on the results.
hit a deer or elk with that bullet in the lungs with a center chest hold and you get the desire results

its not exotic or really fast, but its accurate , not expensive, easy to load in volume and it works very well
