I have a 350 cu and a 700R4 trans I am planning to replace a 230 cu and 3 speed in my 1964 Chevy C-10. Are there any problem areas I should know about?
Thanks in Advance.

youll obviously need a place to work,
a new set of motor mounts and transmission mounts,
a new exhaust, and accessory brackets,
and ID suspect a new floor shifter, new drive shaft etc.
your sure too need a much larger capacity radiator with the required connections for an automatic transmission fluid cooler so ID visit a local salvage yard after taking careful measurements of the available space and I'd be looking for one from a similar size radiator from a truck or better yet, a late model, large luxury car, that would fit the available space limitations
pictures and individual direct questions would be useful.

youll find reading a few links , and asking questions about each problem area you find here rather helpful

Got the place 2 1/2 car garage
Got the mounts & ordering the cross member from LMC
Got Acc brackets & pulleys
Thinking about Lokar shifter

Going to start in a week or so by pulling the 6cyl & trans and do a good cleaning/repaint of the engine compartment.
You will probably be hearing from me if questions arise.
Maybe by the time I get this done I will have figured out how to post photos.

What year 700r4 might want to do some fixxes on that while it's out if you plan to do any hard driving on it. But awesome trans for a cruiser.

What kind of fixes are we talking about?

John .... what kind of HP and Torque is this 350 cuin engine be producing, or maybe it's stock which is it???

.
The guy who built it says 350+HP

But common weak points on a 700r4 if going in a mild performance torque engine that has grip are the 3/4 clutch pack, alluminum actuator pistons not plastic, 28 element sprag, the sun shell either beast or smart shell. If you are gonna really try to hook some power then planetaries plus the input drums need modding.

It all depends on how you plan on driving the truck and any changes you have
planned. If you are never going to put a sticky tires in the rear, no suspension
mods and 95% of all your driving is cruising, then I think you might be OK. You
will never be able to load the trans enough hurt it.

But then again if it's a used trans and you have never been thru it, you don't
have any idea what it's going to run like.

Assuming it a used trans, I would go thru the trans and replace seals and friction
disks as a minimum. Then depending on how you plan to use it, make any needed
modifications that Strictly Attitude is suggesting. Sounds like he knows the weak
spots in the 700-R4.

Just planning to use as a cruiser BUT, I have been known to put my Size 11 thru the firewall! :p
