400ci small block fuellie heads which cams should be used

Right it was the ignition...
Now we have slight detonation at medium revs on acceleration.
Retarded the ignition. Helps a bit but still no success. Sollution Richer mixture ?

Do You have acess to 100 Low Lead Aviation gasoline ?
Or Racing Gas ?
 
Could try and richen up the mixture.
You said the spark plugs were Black. Super Rich or the ignition spark was snuffed out.
When it was Cooler out you were happy with how it ran.
My experience with Edelbrock on Real Hot Days is the fuel boils inside of the float bowl.
Leads to uncontrolled fuel metering problems issues.
Detonation issues now with timing Pulled back.

Aviation Gasoline & Racing Gasoline does not boil on Real Hot days inside of a carburetor fuel Bowl my own experience.
Quick & Easy Test.
Throw High Octane Go Juice in the Gas Tank.

We just had the ignition all wrong.
Now off to buy octane booster ( if I can find any)
 
The best ( or the only ) I can get is putoline octane booster....
I can't find anything about the numbers ...
Trial and error....

I am not familar with Putoline.

Toulene can be used as an octane booster.
Its on Grumpys site with a search.
Driving in to work right now.
 
We have This site so jam packed the search engine is not as up to par as once was.
Grumpy can find the Toulene Link.

Oil level ok.
External shiftmechanism seems to work.
Klicking inside: No movement

Front oil pump.
Tear down.
Inspect.
TH350 a dime a dozen in USA.
Ebay sellers a good source of parts.

Turbo 400 Better.
Bullet Proof.
Trust Me there.

Try this....
Remove the Vacuum modulator can.
Its on the Rear side of a Turbo 350 trans.
With needle nose pliers carefully remove the modulator valve.
It may be stuck in the case bore.
Causing Low Line pressure and No vehichle movement.
Polish the valve with 600 grit wet and dry sandpaper.
Clean with solvent.
Reinstall with fresh ATF coated on the modulator valve.
Assemble and retest.
