It's really more practical I think at this point to turn it into a chassis race car.

Makes a killer lightweight drag car.

The Very best bang for your money is an early C4 Corvette.
Low cost to buy now.
Convertible like mine priced high.
ZR1 & 1996 Grand Sport priced high.

They can drag race.
Road race.
Street Race a C4.
Awesome Vettes.

I'm set on the chevelle at the moment. I do have a factory boxed chassis that I'm going to build up and put this body on and am trying to stay mostly period correct to a certain point. I'm young so comfortability isnt that big of an issue to me and I'm not looking for modern performance. Really just looking to achieve a 60-70's worthy race car. The one thing I wont skimp on is safety, cage and harnesses mandatory.

Bottle jacks and cut blocks of wood will help.
Jack up the body and help line up.

I'll look those up. Still a ways off from mating it to the chassis I'm going to use. Just using the other chassis to get the body work done.
 
Managed to grab a harbor freight 10x17 portable garage yesterday. A whole 3 dollars cheaper than the normal 167 coupon. Anyways my wife and I got it setup in the shop last night. Didn't do a full setup, wouldnt clear my hoist and also a smidge to high for the garage door to open.

I'm planning to tape up the seams and do some other prepping inside and then start blasting the body. This probably wont be a 100% solution to the mess but hoping it will reduce 95% of the area I have to clean up and it might help me be able to reclaim some of the media. Going to put up some plywood as a back splash so I don't accidently blast through the cover material. "Tent" is also movable so I can make more room where needed.

That oughta work. At least you are inside.
You can re-use the media by sifting it through one of these metal mesh wastebaskets.

It works great and sifts quickly. Keep a shop vac going nearby to keep the dust down.

Thanks for the tips 302! I've got several of these trash cans sitting around and a couple of shop vacs.

Was wondering how I was going to deal with the dust. So I'll see how well the shop vacs work.
 
A couple of box fans would go along ways to keeping the dust at bay and not cost
too much. Being they are square, it's easy to seal them with tape.

Blasting with Baking soda is supposed to be low dust but have not tried it yet.
Been blasting with Black Diamond coal slag & Glass beads for aluminum.
All outside.

I had thought about using fans but hadn't come up with a good solution to keep the media from getting out and also from ruining the fans. Was thinking maybe use a screen or a house air filter or both. It will be a bit of trial and error I'm sure. First I'll see how bad its going to get without them and then adjust as needed.

I've got 10 bags of coal slag. My original plan was to use it with my pressure washer and siphon sand blasting attachment to help keep the dust down. The slag isnt bio-degradable though and I don't like the idea of having a black layer of crap in my driveway that won't go away. I may try that route on other pieces/parts of the car with sand. That method should eliminate the dust. Until then I figure the tent method in the garage should work out. I bought some better protective equipment that I hope will make the overall blasting experience better than the first time I tried it.

I like blasting with Glass Beads but its expensive blast media.
Even the China Black Bull Beads are expensive.
Premium USA Glass beads are $80-100 per 5 gallon bucket container.

JEGS Racing has the lowest cost high quality glass beads per 50 pound bags I have found.

Its expensive to blast the media & equipement gear.
Can run up to $10,000 + like Pros use.

Coal slag is dirt cheep.

The quarters on this car have already been warped. Some one prior to me tried to fill in the trim holes with bolts and a stick welder. I'm sure you can imagine how well that turned out.

Still havent used it but still thinking a majority of this car will get blasted by this vs the traditional blaster. Main purpose at the time is to blast the rust in the areas I have peeled open to fix the rust right now so I can get the floor put back in.

Keep moving fast.

Go back with Virgin new glass beads to finish up.

I plan to move as quick as I can, I don't really enjoy blasting so the less time I have to spend doing it the better. I'm not looking for 100% rust removal. Mostly I'm looking to have the blaster find any of the extremely weak/thin areas by seeing if it blast through. I'll cut out and weld in new metal for the stuff that does and plan to use eastwood rust encapsulator on everything else that passes the test. Probably not the 100% correct way to fix it but I'm after functionality on this car not so much perfection.
