I have a line on a cheap tractor near me. It's an early 70s Ford 4000 with an automatic, I think it's call an SOS trans. That makes it go for half the price of the 5 speed counterparts because people don't trust them. It runs good but with well worn tires and dry-rotted hydraulic lines it may not have been well cared for.

My question is - can the trans be swapped out with a manual transmission without breaking the bank?
Side note: this model goes for about $6000 in good working order, I could likely get it for $1500.
 
I have my eye on real old Allis Chamlers WC & WD45 Tractors.
I want one for my Farm here.
I just like them.
Easy to operate.
Simple to work on. Reliable.
WC Model had the Fairbanks Morse Magneto.
WD 45 had Conventional Points battery ignition. Power steering too come 1957.

WC Is neat. No battery required to start.
Hand Crank strong arm start.
Fairbanks Morse Magneto generates its own High Tension AC Current to fire spark plugs.
Just the right size tractor I need.
Affordable for me.

Anywhere from $300-$2000 +.
There are a couple of Allis Chamlers WC & WD's around here I am watching.
Guys want too much $ yet.
Scrap metal prices are still way down.
Recycle middle guys are near broke.
China is not buying right now.
Has been a slowdown since December 2014.
March - June 2015 the worst so far.
Even a Junk car brought in only gets you $50-80 bucks.

A 1936 AC WC Tractor nearby I like.
Will run again.
They are built to last indefinitely if mechanic owned and taken care of.
The 4cyl engines are simple and built stout. Easy to rebuild.
They are not big money makers to resell.
They are Small Farm Work Horses.
Lots of Torque Power for thier size.
Handy to have and use when needed.

I want one Rich.
Want it before a 496 Big Block Chevy.
Have my Pontiac musclecars.
My boys are getting older so I need to think of them and make it decent future for them.

Nice price.
Trouble is bringing it home From Tennessee .
Not sure if it will fit on my car trailer.
My Suburban is a 1/2 ton model only.
Definitely like that old AC WD45.
 
Things must be cheaper where you are. Shit that has rotted in a field for 20 yrs and they want $5000 because they saw one on a tv show sell for that price.

Agree, I'm afraid of what we'll get next. Seems any more these presidents are progressively getting worse. Who votes for these assholes? A couple million self righteous college students, dizzy office water cooler hanging women and another few million brain-washed Union laborers convinced they're going to loose their cushy jobs is likely!

also agree rich we could jump out of the frying pan with one shitty president and into the fire with another one thats bad in all new and different ways... i mean nobody's perfect but when your charged with the responsibility of steering this ship we call america... you better be up to the task
