heres A post I found on a different website, a guys upset over the flat out stupidity of young machinists in his company,
now I realize many of you might not know much about the set-up and use of larger machine tools,
but looking at the pictures
it seems rather obvious that the guy needs a great deal of direct,
personal and nearly constant supervision,
the pictures show a rather obvious stupid mistake.
and while thats all too obvious the guy posting seems to assume the young guy hes posting about, is fully expected to be able to function completely on his own,
which is obviously not true, the cutting inserts installed incorrectly

This latest batch of young 20 something we've hired over the few yrs are something else. Cocky, arrogant, and just flat stupid. Trained a kid who's cell was running low on work so he had a fall back area, but real reason was easier for management to "explain" indirect hours with training vs doing nothing when corporate looks at numbers. So he picked up the new machine in the cell quick, real easy 2 axis htl, just alot of different parts, tooling, and fixtures to learn...and since we are slow as hell, he only got to see 2 parts in 3 weeks. So first night on his own, junked a $1800 bracket due to loading tool wrong. Couple days later 2 stainless brackets he ran had excessive run out so there was $7400 in junk....but the whole time training "this is easy, oh, that'll be easy, this is probably easiest machine I've ran" lol

So this afternoon I had to use a few boring bars he used last night, noticed a weird looking insert loaded....got it to my bench for a good look...you got to be fucking kidding me. Single sided, 2 edge 500 series ruffing insert....loaded backwards. Luckily all he had to do was face a casing that was followed by a finisher, but my god it had to have sounded horrible and should've set off an instant alarm to him to stop since it cuts .250 off for 2 passes (usually more on 1st pass since it's a rough cast surface)

Luckily part didn't get junked, shim pad only read loss. These young guys just flabbergast me though, Cocky as fuck, with a 30yr employee attitude that the company owes them everything, and flat stupid. I had him start to prove a program out while he was training because "oh yeah, I've proven alot out"....rapid at 100%, no single block, didn't read program to see moves...just hit cycle crash and hope it works. Needless to say I stopped him and explained it's no wonder you and the rest of your brain dead 2nd shift pals constantly crash shit. So showed him proper way, double checking tool and offset it's running, feed rates etc...

Rant over
