A little Help With HEI

I have a 86 HEI distributor from a C10 with a 350, i hope to put it into a 68 307. my question it this, is there any way to make this dizzy operate without the signal from the ecu?

personally ID go to the nearest salvage yard and try to find an (older iron or aluminum,) chevy points style distributor, and try to find one that the central shaft showed little wear, (mostly found in 1955-70 cars/trucks) and convert it to hei with a kit like this, thats not designed to run with an ECU, but just eliminate the points, as thats a simple cheap route and most salvage yards only charge about $20-$25 for those distibutors

well my main goal is to get rid of points. i know for a fact that the "78 4 pin HEI will drop in and work with nothing but a Key-on-hot lead....just looking to see if anyone has tried the 5 pin module.
it seems that the 5 pin has the same leads going to the pickup ring and just has an extra line. from what i've read this extra line just retards timing 10* when it is grounded. great for a little timing adjust at startup or when hitting he button. i just want some input from someone who has experiance.
