I stopped at a local gas station here in texas and as I was getting fuel a guy driving a 1965 chevelle pulls into the next bay, I asked him if it was a SBC or BBC and he stated it was a 454 BBC that he purchased from a wrecked 1971 corvette, and installed about 15 years prior.
He stated he really likes the car, but he was debating if he should swap the drive train out for the one he had in his 2007 chevy truck with its LS series engine and over drive auto transmission, as the current chevelle looks great and gets lots of complements but it sucks on gas mileage and the 2007 truck had extensive body damage as it had been hit (t-boned) in an accident , several months prior and the insurance company is still not settling, on repairs, and thus the truck, was not safe to drive.
his main concern was the time and cash outlay that was certain to be required to get the swap done,
as the chevelle was his daily transportation.(and he really was hesitant to get to involved)
I fully appreciated how the project cost was certain to snowball a bit as it progressed and it was not a single weeks project for sure!
I asked if he was local, as maybe I could help, but it turned out he's from south of DALLAS.. over 200 miles away.
yeah we old geezers may have many of the tools , have learned the required skills and have extensive experience but most of us are on limited budgets, most of us no longer have the active contacts, and willing to help, the willing to get involved ,skilled buddies,or friends, and few of us have the shop/garage required to do everything we wish we could.
(I really felt he was talking about most of us geezers at times,
as his thoughts mirrored mine on several projects)
