a surprisingly effective way to clean surface crud off paint

I was visiting a neighbor who parks his white 1991 corvette outside his home at night,
in his car port next to the house,
this may keep it out of direct over head sun light and provide partial protection,
but its not like a garage, as it allows a great deal of blown, leaves, dust to fall on the car.
I know many people either don,t own a home with a garage,
or park outside because the garage is stuffed with storage items.
very similar to this car

I noticed and mentioned to him,
that his cars paint looked like it would need a good cleaning,
as it appeared to have a light surface coating ,
of road dust, tree sap, and what appeared to be almost mildew,
and what might be ash from the local farms burning off sugar cane fields
,
and while it did not appear to be damaging the cars paint, yet!
it would not easily wipe off with a wet paper towel, we at first tried ,
next we tried, a wet cloth and dawn dish soap,

too clean the car paint off, that liquid soap would not easily remove it.
he said, no problem, I know what will, and soon returned from his shop with

he proceeded to start cleaning the paint and glass, while I constantly and repeatedly kept adding dawn dish washing liquid and a constant flow of water from a hose,
at his instruction, thus, flushing the corvettes body in the area he was LIGHTLY wiping with the mildly abrasive cleaning rags.
the secret he said, was too never allow a rag to contact the paint without a abundant flow of dish soap and water,
to act as a lubricant and flushing agent, and to apply very light surface pressure.
I was amazed to see this process easily removed the surface crud AND did NOT seem to leave any visible surface damage or micro scratches after the corvette body dried off,
and yes I looked very carefully in good day light, at the paint
, and while this is hardly what I would recommend as I'm not 100% sure its good for the paint surface it seemed too do a rather re-markable and throughout job,
and leave even better results than I've seen done with some auto polish products that include a mild abrasive compound
I asked him if hes used the product previously on his corvette, and he stated he had done so for several years and had not found it had damaged a darn thing.

btw these are a bit more abrasive but seem to work even faster, but of course they being more abrasive might leave micro scratches if your not careful, but they work very quickly and from what I tried on my personal car they seem to be a good option, but remember the surface must be flooded with soapy flowing water during use.

I use RainX - on the paint. While doing the glass one day, I spilled some on the paint. The container says not to get it on the paint, so I very quickly wiped it off. Driving home from work a couple of weeks later in the rain, I was amazed how at >40 mph, the water hovered in the air above where I spilled the RainX. So the next day I proceeded to RainX the entire hood - without even washing it. I just sprayed it on a section and wiped it off with a paper towel. You would be amazed at the amount of dirt on the paper towel. Anyway, it works great, lasts a very long time, and the best part is it that even when you think it's all gone, there is still a barrier left. You can just redo the RainX and any dirt on the surface practically falls off.
Best "WAX" I have ever used.
