About DANA rears.

Since it's been decided to go with a Dana rear I need some information. The ads I see don't say if it's a Dana, it normally states the bolt count, ratio and what it's out of. So for a '99 to '03 full size GM 14 bolt and say a 3.73 it has to be a Dana right? What else could it be? I don't have pictures other wise I wouldn't be asking this question

Should I get an entirely new and complete rear/axle setup or find a used set and restore what's needed?

Its a AAM - American Axle Manufacturing built 14- bolt rear differential Richard.

Dana 60 made by Dana Spicer corporation.

The semi float Dana 60 rears are hard to find and very expensive today. Factory installed in Mopar 1966- 71 426 Hemi & 440 -6-pack cars with a 4-speed manual transmisson.
Only other potential factory application is even harder to find but less valuable....Ford F100 with optional Dana 60 Rear. Semi float axles factory installed. Made from 1961-64 only.
Called the Dana 60-2. Its a True Dana 60 Heavy Duty rear. I have a 1963 F100 Dana 60 Rear with factory 4.10 gears & Powerlock Posi traction equipped.
Meant for Grumpy some years back.
Still have it. May use eventual myself for Drag race with 9310 Nickle gearset.

Ok, all great information but I'm still settled on what to get. So far I'm hearing that for an 800 hp street truck the obvious choice is a Dana 60 - is this correct? Should I get (buy) the whole assembly ready to go, or something else?
This an example of how easy this project can blow past the original budget.

How much Hp or torque can the stock rear from a 2005/06, 2500HD handle?
One of Grumpy's 454 -496 BBC OR My Trans Am Ram Air 4 455-462 Will kill the 2500 HD 14-Bolt Rear Fast.
Couple of burnouts likely .

I need help with picking the right items for assembling the rear.

At this point I'm looking at Mosser but there are too many choices and I don't have the experience to tell right from wrong on this part of the build. So far it's going to be a beefed up 4L80E with 18 or 19 inch wheels and modest side wall height and about 10 inch foot print - sorry, I haven't got to discuss tires and wheels yet. The only thing I can tell you with certainty it wont have the silly super low profile and super wide tires on 24 inch rims like they do on Fast'N Loud trucks. However it will have an appropriate suspension to help assure the rear stays relatively planted to the ground without feeling you're ridding on the back seat of an empty school bus!
Here's the like, please pick what is needed without going too far.
