the C4 corvettes are equiped with a canister emmission system to prevent dirrect exiting of fuel fumes to the outside air

Your car should have EVAP canister in front of the left front wheel area ,it has vacuum lines and sensors and an electric actuator. The ecm should tell the system to purge the fuel tank of pressure when certain conditions occure that the sensors should detect, if its building excess pressure a hose or sensor is likely deffective.
