An engine that has been through a garage fire any good

I recently had a friend of mine have his garage burn down really sucks lost his truck a bunch of tools anf a couple engines that were in there. Even worst the insurance company only had it insured for $5000. It gets more complex one friend owns the place and garage and rents to another friend. So it was lose lose situation. Does any one know if the engines and any of there parts are any good I realize they will need to be torn down and inspected along with all gaskets and seals replaced but will the extreme temps ruin say the block and rotating assembly?

All depends how hot it got. If aluminum bits on the engines aren't melted you could probably salvage the iron parts. I wouldn't try to save anything aluminum unless it looked really good and gets thoroughly checked out.

yeah we will see soon I know there was no intake on it and the tire it was sitting on burnt I am interested to see what the pistons look like It is only a sbc 350 roller style single seal rear main but had 36,000 factory miles. I would like to save the bottom end only for him crank rods pistons if possible if not no big deal engine was going to be used in around 400hp build heads were going be replaced with aluminum and it was to be fitted in a late 70"s bmw.
