for the price the equipment and capacity seems rather impressive,
Id love to try one to see if its really a useful welder or just advertizing B.S.
a welder with these specs could easily complete about 70-80%% of what most car hobby guys,
will ever do and at only $500 its a darn bargain.
I certainly look at the advertised capacity,
and would think sheet metal and most frame repair work is in its range.
I certainly am rather intrigued

DUTY CYCLE
The rated Duty cycle refers to the amount of welding that can be done within an amount of time. The Eastwood MP140i has a duty cycle of 30% at 90 Amps. It is easiest to look at your welding time in blocks of 10 Minutes and the Duty Cycle being a percentage of that 10 Minutes. If welding at 90 Amps with a 30% Duty Cycle, within a 10 Minute block of time you can weld for 3 Minutes with 7 Minutes of cooling for the Welder.

If the Duty Cycle is exceeded, the Welder will automatically shut off, however the fan will continue running to cool the components. When a safe temperature has been reached, the Welder will automatically switch the Welder output back on. To increase the duty cycle you can turn down the Voltage Output control.

personally ID drop a bit more coin and go with this welder ( directly linked above)
if I did not already own several miller welders
(a new mig and an archaic tig)
like my miller 252 mig
I purchased a 30-year-old used TIG welder ,
water cooled torch and foot petal assembly ,myself
,and while its hardly state of the art it does weld well.
TIG is far more controllable as you can control arc heat,
feed rates,on both the arc and fill rod ,
each separately,
and can go back over welds and re-heat without adding,
or adding fill rod all you want,
so IM hardly going to suggest you need the newest version to get decent tig welds,
while its slower its also far more flexible in what you can do or redo,
now having used some of the newer TIG welders,
I will say they have advantages
,you don,t necessarily need the latest and best to weld,
keep in mind older equipment is not necessarily bad or obsolete,
it just might not have the latest features
kind of like dating a 40 year old girl
,when your both out looking to have a good time,
she might not look as nice as a 19 year old but she has experience,
style and probably can get the job done really well just the same

HERES THE MIG I PURCHASED (below)
MILLER 252
http://www.welders-direct.com/mm5/merch ... gory_Code=
FOR MY SHOP, (IT COST $2200) IT HAS AN OPTIONAL KIT THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO MIG ALUMINUM< BUT ITS RATHER EXPENSIVE
(about $1100)
http://www.welders-direct.com/mm5/merch ... ode=130831
but its a TOP QUALITY MIG THAT WILL HANDLE 95% OF AUTOMOTIVE WELDING IF YOU GET THE OPTIONAL KIT
millermatic252.jpg

just some info
THE MILLER WELDERS that REQUIRE a 230 volt feed have proven to be easier to use in my opinion than some of the cheaper brands
,(YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR)
you can OCCASIONALLY GET GOOD DEALS ON E-bay on NEW and used welders,
stick with the better name brands, accessories like wire feed guns and repairs are very difficult to get for some off brands.
buy a welder that rated at at least 50% duty cycle or you could be constantly having it overheat on large jobs,
or not have the power to do the larger jobs

from miller welders
Never mind that the Millermatic 252 can weld material from 22 gauge to 1/2in thick in a single pass, or that it has the highest output in its class. You know a machine can pull its weight when it has infinate voltage control with self-calibrating digital meters.

Highest Output in its Class
(250 A at 28 VDC). Weld longer on high-end applications.

Auto Gun Detect
Miller's Auto Gun Detect allows operator to simply pull trigger on MIG gun, spool gun or push/pull gun. Automatically detects and recalls the voltage, wire feed speed and timer of the active gun.

Angled, Dual-Gear Driven, Cast Aluminum Drive System
Features no-tool, quick-change reversible drive rolls and an easy-to-set, scaled tension knob.

EZ-Access Consumable Compartment and Parameter Chart.
The Spoolmate 200 saves time for the operator by eliminating the need to go back to the machine to change wire feed speed.

Large, Digital Front Panel with Built-in Digital Timers Menu
Enables operator to preset voltage and wire feed speed. Standard run-in, pre/postflow, burnback, spot/delay (stitch) timer menu.

Push-Pull Gun Direct Connect
Compatible with Spoolmate 200 Series spool gun with wire feed speed control on the gun. This saves time by reducing trips back to the machine. Also compatible with more industrial Spoolmatic 15A or 30A spool gun.

EZ-Change Low Cylinder Rack
Allows users to easily roll cylinders on and off of rack - no need to lift cylinders.

Larger Work Area
Now with longer 15-ft M-25 MIG gun means you can reach more of your work without having to stop and move the machine.

Comes complete with:
• Millermatic 252 power source (1-Phase Only, 200/208/230V)
• 10 ft (3 m) power cord and plug
• 15 ft (4.5 m), 250 amp MDX 250 MIG Gun (This takes Miller MDX Consumables)
• 10 ft (3 m) work cable and clamp
• Argon mix regulator/flow gauge and hose
• Extra contact tips
• Factory-installed running gear with EZ-Change Single Low Cylinder Rack
• .030/.035 in reversible drive rolls

The Eastwood Combustion Tig, Mig, Stick , is not any good For Race Car Fabrication work.
Need AC To Tig Weld Aluminum.
Amperage output is low too.

Need a Miller Dynasty 225 amp or a Vintage Miller Transformer High Frequency Tig like the Big Tank shown you have Grumpy.

I need to get a welder again. The last time I needed a tack weld that took all of 90 seconds after setting up for 5 minutes from a local guy cost me $100.

The last tornado that skipped by us ripped the security gate rails that are aluminum made to look like wrought iron. It’s a little job but would probably cost the same as buying a welder to keep. Rentals are half the cost of a welder.
I need to make a couple parts made of stainless too.
This $500 welder will cost me at least $1200 by the time I bought a new mask, spool gun, tanks, gloves , yada yada. I threw in everything I had to Rick years ago.

Brian knows or has all the good stuff, I just can’t justify spending like that for very occasional use.
I don't have a Tig Welder.
Eddie has a real nice Miller Dynasty 225 amp Tig water cooled torch head.
230 VAC in.
Need alot of Amps current AC Current to Tig Weld 3/16"- 1/4" sheet Aluminum.
180-200 amps.
Even cold side discharge tubing he uses 90-130 amps.
He gets into contorted positions and has me adjust the Miller 225 Dynasty settings for him.

I have a Snap On Tweeco made 120 VAC..
I haven't used in over 10 years now.
Worked so so I got best results on steel with. 028" wire. It was perfect for old car sheetmetal and plug welding sheet metal.
Not very good at thicker Fabrication, current becomes unstable, get cold rolled welds I call them.

At home on the Farm , I bought a Vintage Miller Thunderbolt AC Stick welder what I use all the time now.
Got really good at Stick welding.

Looked at other Tig welders offshore.
Unsure.
Everlast seems Ok.
Pretty Positive no where near as Good as A Miller Dynasty 225 Tig, costs $5000 new what Ed paid for 4 years ago.
He had a entry level Miller Tig 220 VAC.
Was a POS.
ONE DAY HE SMASHED WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER IN FRONT OF ME.
I HAD TO STOP HIM.
WE CANT RACE CAR FABRICATE NOW !
So $5000 later spent the Miller Dynasty bought.
No more Fits with a Crappy Junk TIG.

I like Stick because I can weld outside .
No Shielding gas needed.
High winds weld away.
I have even stick welded in the rain zero issues.

it looks like welders keep improving and becoming more versatile

That MP140i by Eastwood is a pita if you are not working 100% efficient with your settings and your technique. Otherwise it keeps shutting down. You would think they would step up their game for better cooling technology.
Eastwood started selling someone else’s plasma cutters a few years ago and they over rate the capacity, the new 40 amp is worthless, their 60 amp works like the old 40 did 8 years ago.
HF will have the all new Hitachi made multi use welder for $599 including both the Aluminum spool torch and the plasma cutter being introduced in the US. HF hit a home run with their new line of electric winches and they hope to do the same with this welder. I think at SEMA they said it will be available in the US Early December ‘22.

By the way, where do they service these Yes welders? Some companies make returns after the return period so expensive it’s almost not worth it, just try to fix it yourself or throw it out if your local electronics repair shop can’t help.

Im very thankful I purchased my miller 252 when I did the price has DOUBLED in the last 4 years

Miller Millermatic 252 MIG Welder

Didn’t EVERYTHING double in the last 4 years?

We drink a lot of soda in this house, why did that double in the last 18 months? Paint has doubled, I got an Italian Hoagie (a Sub to all you foreigners) the other day, $14! A cheesesteak with peppers and onions- a few cents less. I remember taking my first date to McDonald’s, dinner for 2, two hamburgers, two fries and milkshakes for $2. Now that is over $20!
God help you if have kids. If you can’t get them to join the service or go to med school you could be stuck with them freeloading off you until you’re too old to take care of yourself!

Where were we? Oh yeah, welders. My rant of the year!
