Anyone into skeet or trap?

I was just wondering. I'm not and avid hunter really. I've bagged some squirrels, dove, a duck or two, and three turkeys in one shot(they were standing close together and got an unchoked 12ga. spread from about 10ft. :D )... but I love target/clay shooting and have a penchant for shotguns.

I use a Remington Model 1100 28ga. for nearly all my sport shooting. Most everyone thinks I'm nuts for using it, since it's an antique. But like old cars, what's the point in having them if you're not gonna use them? Though I AM SUPER glad that the 28ga. has made a comeback...especially now that I don't have to special order shells at $25/box. :p

personally I like the 20ga for birds and skeet, its alot easier too find shells but if I could talk a buddy out of his side-bye-side 28ga Id own one in a heartbeat

i live here in the midwest and bird hunting is something we really enjoy. my family usually gets together and go pheasant at least once a year and we always shoot trap at thanksgiving. ive had 20 gauges and twelve gauges and for trap shooting a 20 or even your ol 28 will be much easier on your ears and shoulder haha and still kill them clay pigeons just fine. im also an avid bowhunter and land manager and run an outfitter for whitetail deer with my dad and grandpa. cars and the outdoors i dont think it gets much better than that

Yeah, I love my .28.
It's an auto, so it's a TON of fun to shoot. I've got the whole Model 1100 series, but the 28 is probably my favorite.

But, I'm not much into killing for sport. Only for survival. But I've got lots of handy survival tricks.
My uncle (MFR in Vietnam) thought that I should have the skills, even if I never used them, so that if the situation arose, I could survive.

anyone that doesn,t know how to use most comon weapons effectively and who doesn,t own at least a few firearms, know at least some basic martial arts, skills is at a huge disadvantage if things ever get really bad!

I used to shoot trap and skeet many years ago. It was a lot of fun, but it can get very expensive. There used to be a Winchester Gun Club in OKC, and public was welcome. There were leagues and tournaments, and we could use club guns. Eventually, though you want your own trap gun and skeet gun, and the sky is the limit. I had a Browning O/U trap gun that I used, and a Winchester Model 12. For skeet, I believe I used a club gun, a winchester auto.

You soon find out that you will shoot a lot of shells, so reloading becomes imperative unless you have a lot of money. Reloaders are not too expensive, and the components weren't either at that time, but I'm betting that that has changed. It does take a lot of time, but it's a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I wasn't too wise in those days, not wearing ear protection, so my hearing has suffered.
Regards,
Dennis.

I bought a 12 ga shot sheel reloader and a bunch of components from a skeet/trap club when they went out of bussiness, All of it is designed for light skeet loads but the price was reasonable.
problem is theres very few places to hunt birds around here
