I was asked recently if I liked the 1911 45 pistol?

I owned an AMT 7" long slide for a few years and foolishly sold it when I got offered a few dollars more than I paid for it
so yes Ive owned a version and used one.
if I were to buy something similar,if I had a wish list and options,

yeah a 14-18 shot double stack magazine pistol in all stainless with a 6"-7" barrel,
in a similar pistol to the AMT, pistol pictured above, or the EAA witness
and in my case , preferably double action trigger version ,
would be something Id buy if it was priced under about $1100
and ideally available in either 45 acp or 10mm

yeah its not a 1911 but its a very nice pistol
having owned the 1911 and a EAA witness I think the witness is a marginally superior design,
so for the colt 1911 aficionados,
I expect my picture will be taped to the back of the urinal,
but I have used both and thats my opinion.

Grumpy I have a few 1911s most of them are 1911s except my Kimber the purests say that its not a 1911 then neither would my Sig Tribal 4 inch bbl. or the Ruger or the Sig because they are 10mm I got a couple standard honest to god 1911s a Para Elite, A Colt , a Springfield , and a cheap Rock Island that is far and away the best shooter of the true 1911s and the Kimber I almost tossed into the river it jammed every other round I called them up and they told me that there is truly a break in of 500 rounds and they were right but its over rated in my opinion the Sig Tribal 4inch bbl. 45ACP I got it because it looked good and I got a hell of a deal on it so I bought it to sell it surprise surprise I wasn't expecting much but I got a lot that gun is a shooter and then some both the 10mm ones shoot great the Sig Scorpion and the Ruger are fine guns I can't say anything bad about the Colt but its truly overpriced but it is pretty I don't get into the hype of pure or not as far as I'm concerned if you don't own one thats 100 years old then you don't have a 1911 either my only complaint is I can't EDC one because they are to big for me to carry at work My quest is the smallest EDC gun with the most rounds for work when I'm on my bike a lot of times I will carry a Sig 226 9mm but the CZ 75 is giving it a run for the money both are 2 of the best all around guns in a decent price range back to 1911s my buddy just got a Nighthawk 1911 I shot it and it is smooth has a kind of feeling to it but you still have to put it on target and I really can't see 4000.00 for a 1911 so whats your opinion of the pureists and the 1911

everyone has favorites , guns they shoot better than others and guns that just feel right in your hand,
and if a 1911 colt or clone suits you, well thats great!
given a choice I prefer a stainless S&W 44 mag revolver in a 5"-10" length
mostly because I grew up hunting and shooting bowling pin matches with them
