and just think what the right cam would have done for them! i dont know if those results are repeatable with the high compression, however the 114 lsa is probably the saving grace there

From my Vantage point of view Grumpy,
The Tall Deck BBC & BBC Standard deck height has the edge.
Big Tube Headers readily available in 2", 2-1/8", &2-1/4" Primary tube size with collectors ranging from 3-1/2- 5" outlet size.
If you can't exhaust an engine correct to achieve 100-140% VE Its a waste of time & $$$$ money.

Big Headers made for Pontiac V8 too.
LS & LSX Also.
Both still very Competitive.

SBC is dead today for affordable Race Use on drag strip to Win.

That New HELLCAT CHALLANGER HAS 707 HP BONE STOCK.
Simple Blower pulley swap & retune in 1 hour will bring power to 1,000HP Easy.

Home done single & Twin Turbo Charging only practicle way to compete Phil.
Turbo Phil Style.

Start with a Pontiac V8 or Tall Deck BBC.
7.0:1 - 8.5:1 static compression ratio.

i think if you use e85 and pay close attention to rounding off the sharp edges on the piston dome and inside the combustion chamber you can do alot to eliminate detonation with even higher compression that 8.5:1

Even here surrounded by Cornfields & 3 acres of cornfield of my own Phil E85 is hard to find.
Ethanol plant is about 10 miles away.
Nearest E85 gas pump is 7 miles away. The only 1.
Screwed up.

1971 GTO 455 Pontiac will keep me happy for rest of 2014.
Tap the gas & both rear tires light up & keep spinning in the '63 GP for 200- 500 feet if I recall with last 455 in it.
Not as Violent as the That New 707 HP Hellcat but still fun.

really? theres a few of them here, i put corn piss in my silverado pretty often

i have 402 bbc e85 9.4 compression twin 60 mm turbos 14 psi boost no detonation and pistons looks like new

Its easier finding Aviation gasoline & Race Gas at Fuel pumps around me than E85.

E10 gas is everywhere .
Found 1 gas station near with pure 91 octane gasoline or so claimed.

yea theres a chain of gas stations around here that sell 87-93 with no ethanol added. everthing else "contains atleast 10% corn piss" except e85 which is of course 85% corn piss... however some of the race fuel companies will sell you a 5 or 55 gallon drum of e98! guaranteed consistent octane so you can tune to the ragged egde and not get messed up by a bad batch of fuel

I don't have any experience with E85 or E98 Phil.
But I have been around Methanol alcohol fueled race engines.
Wicked power out of 410 ci Race. 900+ hp normally aspirated.
Crower Hilborn stack style mechanical injection in Dirt Track sprint car engines.
Few local BBC Drag cars in past too.
That old Rons Flying toliet 5" Single Mono blade throttle body is a sight to see on a 540.
Run down 1320 in 7 secpnds.
Car is gone now but memories remain in my head of it.
1982 Camaro body. Pro stock chassis.
