HEY GRUMPYVETTE?
"I need to decide on a camshaft. I am really in a hard spot. I am planning on putting a set of turbos on my truck in the future maybe during the summer or next winter. I have a 1990 454ss. I have converted it to a carb setup and am running a set of pro comp 320cc rectangle ports. I know they aren't very street friendly. That's not rally a big deal to me. I am just trying to decide on a turbo friendly cam and I am not really sure what to look for.I am looking to get it running soon without boost. I would like it to run well without the turbo as well. Its a street/street truck. Basically it will be driving to the strip on the street. lol. I am thinking this http://cranecams.com/?show=browseParts& ... e=camshaft
What do you guys think? "

even thou your looking for a mild street turbo, in the future, your currently not running a turbo so a compromise needs to be made here, turbo cams generally have the exhaust timing limited to maximize the pulse pressure and unlike supercharger cam they generally don,t have longer exhaust durration than the intake durration, valve overlap is also generally limited because the exhaust flow and to some extent back pressure is used to spin up the turbo impeller, on a turbo application youll generally want a wide lsa but about equal durration on both intake and exhaust on a street car application
something like this as a compromise makes more sence, with high lift ratio roller rockers installed on those 320cc heads IF your sticking with a flat tappet hydraulic cam,

something like this is DESIGNED for a turbo(notice the LOWER exhaust duration too build high PEAK exhaust pulse pressure for effective turbo spool up)
