bits of pontiac tech you may not know

I would not be overly concerned about the potential originality , of the manifold here,
as long as the Pontiac intakes in good physical condition,
its almost certainly original and authentic,
WHY? well, that style intake was produced in limited numbers over a very short production run, and I doubt its worth while, for anyone to start manufacturing aftermarket "clones" as the production set-up and cost to do so to make a profit considering the potential here, to sell "clones" a rather limited market, makes that very unlikely.
yes theres similar intakes on the market currently, but close inspection should make the difference rather obvious

your not dealing in something similar to the old mechanical corvette injection, that sells for many thousands of dollars for one in decent condition

yes I have seen those, but if you can,t easily distinguish those newer clones
vs the original intakes ,
I think your better off not even considering getting involved in dealing with restoring older pontiacs

I took a look again at the Latest Pictures Richard.
Its A Clone 1972 455 HO Intake.

I don't see a casting date.

My 1970 Ram Air 4 intake is original .
Only a long time Pontiac owner like me knows the Fine Line Details.

The Port Shape is all wrong also.
Pontiac Ram Air 4 is a tall port design.
Special Ram Air 4 factory intake gasket used.
1971-72 455 HO Similar but different .

Its casted with standard D-Port Low po Head ports.

FEL PRO #1236 RACE INTAKE GASKET SET PRINTO SEAL STYLE IS A REAL CLOSE MATCH TO 1970 RAM AIR 4 HEADS AND INTAKE ORIGINAL .

Don't Buy that Damn Chuna Intake Richard.
Damn Disgrace to the Pontiac Legacy.

PURSUE THE 1970 BONNEVILLE 455 !

Getting involved does make me better off Grumpy, sometimes you surprise me with you what you say -
I've seen people counterfeit coins, antique hinges and hardware, pottery and paintings that fooled judges and experts alike. I can take a shiny aluminum car part and bury it in dirt, subject it to a brine bath, tumble it in ceramic media and a few other things and make it look old. Unless you're talking about the high relief cast numbers or something else that could be missed. It's been my job for over 20 years collecting and validating reproduction high end antiques for most all of largest auction companies on the east coast. Asian artists can reproduce anything and are for hire cheaper than a Walmart clerk, so I've seen some pretty stupid things that don't matter or cost very much be replicated.
Just knowing these parts are being reproduced calls for asking questions and comparing not just shine and smoothness against wear and patina (which is easily produced) but many other details as well. I question because I want more knowledge and learn from other people's mistakes before it becomes a matter of leaning from my mistakes!

Every single original 1969- 72 Pontiac Factory aluminum intake has been subject to some degree of Galvonic Corrosion .
Another Tell Tale Sign its a Clone.

Also The China Dude forgot to Remove Sand Cast Mold Steel Stilts.
Why the Clone has the Strange pedestals on the underside.

Original does not.
MADE IN THE USA WITH PRIDE 1969 -72.

I was trying to get there to pick up that engine. Despite the 50 or so miles apart we know some of the same people. He's just an older guy that's getting the clutter down so his wife won't have to deal with people going through his stuff when he's gone. He owns a towing business and tinkered with some cars in his better days. I just want to get as much info as possible, I don't want the low hp version of the 455 as my plans are to put one of these "blind" purchases on an engine stand and make sure it runs ok before I put it in the GTO and do a drivable ongoing restoration or as some would call a rolling restoration.

Wait, I'm getting lost in your short hand. Are you saying the intake I want to buy is a counterfeit?

Your going have to take my word for it Richard.
I never photograghed my 1970 Ram Air IV Intake with my Digital Kodak Camera.
Only A Ram Air 4 / 455 HO Long time owner can also spot.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean?

I got told tonight if I couldn't tell one from the other . . . .well as anybody can see this can be difficult if you don't have every bit of information. I would bet these two intakes are not made by the same foundry, there are small differences that tell them apart. I just can't buy this for committing it to one car, one engine. If I change directions and want to sell parts, I can't be lying to others, or waste $600 over and above a regular manifold cost. If you could see my home I don't collect fine art because it matches the drapes. I paid the price because I can appreciate the subject matter and the artist, the value of a true work of art that is an investment for the future.

No Casting date present on the Bottom side of the Aluminum Intake Manifold.

I am the Pontiac Expert Here.

I own a Ram Air IV T/A.

Have lots of Pontiac Goodies.
Most I never photographed and never posted here.
