Bob
thats a great bunch of links bobs posted,

now I have a few rather good memories, from friends who own and use a 7.5"-10" barrel length,
41 S&W mag caliber RUGER AND S&W revolver's,
this is a cartridge with a power range thats significantly more than a 357 mag ,
yet it never quite reaches the level of a 44 mag revolvers potential
,although with proper hard cast gas check bullets in the 220-250 grain weight range,
the difference is minimal on game from the results Ive seen demonstrated,
and a 8 3/8" barrel S&W will certainly drop any elk with a well placed shot.
keep firmly in mind correct shot placement and a knowledge of the games anatomy is far more critical than power alone when your using a revolver on big game.
this caliber has a cult following and at least locally its proven very lethal on deer and hogs.

21 grains of H110 in a longer barrel ruger revolver has proven to work really well.
