Bore Size And Rifling

thats certainly useful info for the newer guys

yeah I know the threads old, but for the newer guys,
I was recently asked if a guy should select a 1 in 10 twist rate or a 1 in 7 twist rate on his potential new varmint rifle build
he failed to mention the caliber or bullet weight,
so any suggestion is just a random guess
but if you know the cartridge, bullet , or range of bullet weights and lengths etc. and the intended velocity....
most barrel manufacturers select the twist rate for the most commonly used bullets in any caliber,
but that original twist rate's not always ideal,
what was commonly used in 1960 may not be in common use now 60 years later,
example
the 223 rem was originally designed to shoot a 55 grain bullet twist rates near 1 in 10 were common
now there are 62 grain , 67 grain ,72 grain and even 80 grain 22 caliber bullets,
that are used in longer range matches and hunting, with a 223 rem,
if you know the intended use, and projectile it helps a great deal

maybe because Im an engineer
but have you ever considered using precision measuring tools on the bullets you want to use and available math?
