BRINKS HOME SECURITY IS A SCAM!!

as many of you know I recently moved to Texas , and after 21 plus years of having a brinks home security system,
at my florida address,
and paying every month, about 3 years ago my wife called to cancel the monitoring service,
the gal that answered said they would lower the monthly bill about $20 a month,
if we would keep the discounted service price because we were senior citizens,
there was zero mention of any extended commitment or contract as we had the service for almost 20 plus years already.
my wife agreed and at that time asked if there was any commitment or contracts.
she was assured there was just a reduction in the monthly fees.
I called in early march to discontinue the security monitoring service ,
as we had the house on the market for sale.
and I was told that it was canceled, Today ,
its may 3 2022, almost two months later.. and I noticed I'm getting billed, so I call ,
and I get told I have 4 month remaining on my commitment ,
I said that can't be correct I had the service for 22 years plus and I was told ,
they AUTOMATICALLY re-new the commitment every 36 months,
and I still have 4 months remaining on my latest commitment!
I never signed anything, I never agreed to this.
obviously this is a total SCAM!!!
anyone that signs with brinks is getting SCAMMED !!

Ok, I know a little about contractual law.

Monitoring services is very profitable. Do you have all your paperwork from the start years ago? Many times there is a clause in the contract that states if you don’t cancel so many days before the contract renewal period flips you agree to stay put until the end. ADT was the pioneer of this industry for the terms that rope everyone in.

First, call the bank and stop the auto draft. If you used a credit card you will have to get a reissue on a new card number. The card company can go back a maximum of 3 months if you tell them you were over-billed. FL law is a great state for laws protecting their seniors and you can trust that Brinks doesn’t want you complaining.

Author up a letter to Brinks billing department and Cc the president of Brinks. It will never reach the president but where it stops that person will be watching. Don’t get too wordy, just state what you just said, but tell them you will file a complaint with the consumer protection agency if they don’t refund you. Get return receipt requested from the PO.

You can take quicker steps but my way stops them from trying to squeeze you for more money or reporting something negative to the credit reporting agencies. My way gets their attention far more without getting your BP up.
