Building a S̶t̶r̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶3̶5̶0̶ 383 for Frank the Tank…

So you think it's maybe fuel fouling..? I'll post some pics of the plugs later in the week.. They smell a little fuelly.. But not strong.. and quite wet. The guy that did the dyno tune indicated that my vacuum level may need a lower value power valve, but the AFR numbers weren't bad, so didn't bother changing it... But, like I said he kind of lost interest..
Its not EFI.
My Ex Boss in the Race shop I worked at since we talked last, actually worked for him 2 times now...another story, He had Zero interest in carburated cars.

Proof... ;)

I was racing a guy in a massive truck, hence the slow time on the other lane...

Ok.. Let me catch you gentlemen up on where Frank the Tank and I are up to now… Get comfortable.. It’s going to be a long story..
You weren't kidding were you! Without bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all.

I wonder how you can have both good AFR's and fuel fouled plugs. Did you have a sensor on
both sides? Were the bad plugs on just one side? The pics will help.

Congrats on your 13 seconds car, but there is lots more to be had!!!

My opinion.
The Old timers like Grumpy never had AFR Widebands.
Never Data loggers.

All you need is a Fuel pressure guage to watch all the time and read spark plugs.
Still done the same way today Tuning Twin Turbo cars.
Reading spark plugs the Final Truth.

its all a learning process, you want too simply want to mentally take a step back, take a deep breath or two,
and start testing to find out whats working correctly,in your current combo,
whats not working up to your expectations, and if its not meeting your goals, logically calculate what should change,
and then calculate what can be adjusted or if necessary parts that can be logically replaced, and re-tested,
if that required too improve the performance.
don,t make the all too common mistake of thinking adding horsepower is the only route to improved performance.
suspension mods, better shocks, better brakes, a stiffer frame, larger diameter and wider tires, and drive train gearing and removing weight,
and correctly setting up the cars chassis to more effectively apply weight transfer ratios,
swapping to lower weight parts,or stronger , or more durable parts, use of stronger drive train components, better matched gear ratios, all help

Its pulling hard then lays down.
Fuel system issues very likely.

There are likely issues with all systems at the moment...;) The fuel system being one of them..

Can you explain from the time slip what you can see that hints at the issue? And where the likely gains are?

Also, remember the gear changes were based on my RPM-guessometer... I have no data as to when I should change and no tachometer... lots of room for error..

Yep, lots of poor luck and poor choices... But, it has been pretty fun regardless.. It's really only the wasted $$ that hurts.. The rest has been a pretty good experience.. I probably should have been back on here with you guys sooner now I think about it..

I hear what you're saying about the plug fouling and AFR.. and it may be multiple issues... both fuel and oil.. I am leaning towards oil though, as I seem to be using a bit of oil.. But, no smoke that I have noticed to indicate major burning...?

Thanks! I was real happy to hit 13.99.. Made the effort feel worthwhile.. :)

That's a good point Brian. I do need to add a fuel pressure gauge.. Would it be a temporary setup to have the gauge visible in the car? I imagine the plug fouling issue would need to be fixed to get any accurate data for performance tuning...?

I expected you'd give this advice Grumpy ;) and you're correct.

I'd be interested in what jumps out as the next value for $ place to focus my attention..

Question about suspension setup.. If I have zero traction issues at launch, does that indicate that at this stage suspension is less of an issue in my performance?

The link worked for me. You really need to pick on someone your own size or maybe smaller !!! ;)
Great. Ha! true... My run before this one was against a Ford Escort, which is a very little car which had a smallbock (interestingly the driver had one arm..)... The race went similarly, but with me being left for dust.. :)
