Building a S̶t̶r̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶3̶5̶0̶ 383 for Frank the Tank…

look at your block, some blocks have two different bolt patterns for mounting a starter,
and some starters have dual sets of bolt locations

Grumpy borrowed my photo from earlier this year.
The Power Master ULTRA Torque starter bolted up to my 1999 CHEVY Tahoe 350 Vortech block.
Vortech 350 has Straight and Staggered by patterns present.
The Starter with Bendix extended cranking over missed the K1500 4L60E 168 Tooth Flexlate by 1/2 inch short.
Spun away and did nothing else.
No way to resolve.
Bad Engineering again.
Made nice The Ultra Torque.
Bought it used off of ebay maybe 2007.

Only TILTON MINI STARTER ARE DIRECT FIT NO ISSUES .

What I probably should have asked was, do you know of any online stores that sell quality rebuild parts and ship international..? :D
No not offhand.
Have to look around today.
You built a daily driver that can be raced at the dragstrip.
A Factory High Torque 10MT Delco starter rebuilt proper will last 100,000 miles.
Been using them since like 1987.

Long tube Headers, High compression 12.0:1 static, Race Gas 450+ cubes I have found Tilton mini starters are best.
They don't last 100,000 miles.

The 8.1 496 Factory gear reduction starter is a good unit. It fits. Full flywheel tooth engagement like an old 10 MT.

Finding Mint used 10 MT cores are hard to find.
Used on all Pontiac 455s and 400 Ram Air.

Some select Chevy applications.

A High Torque GM Chevy Starter.
The Nose cone looks odd.
Like 1984-1987 C4 Corvette style.
They want alot of $$$ for it.

Will it work for my setup Brian?

I thought you'd say that about the $... In New Zealand that price is about what I'd pay for a no name Chinese mini starter... so, actually quite reasonable here.. I can get them cheaper from over your way, but the exchange rate and shipping mean it ends up almost exactly the same price... I priced up a Summit starter and shipped in NZD$ it was going to be $260ish....

At work yet.
Thought about that starter.
It's only for an early C4 Corvette.
1984-1987 with a 700 R4 Transmission that uses a 153 Tooth Flexplate.
So avoid Jimmy.
Keep looking.

Oh ok... The description says its for a 14" 168 tooth flexplate.. It's got staggered bolt holes.. That's why I thought it would work.. I'll confirm it with the seller.

Get the part number off the starter and the Date code.
Both on the main field coil housing.
Google.

People will tell you anything.

Thread is an extra Heavy Duty Version of The Chevy Delco 10 MT Starter also.
It has a Cast Iron nose cone.
The Big Block Chevy Street guys prefer on a Race FB Group I am in.

The 496 8.1 starter sounds like a Vintage Chrysler 440 RB starter motor.
You hear the Planetary gearsets.
Only issue I had with mine this past winter was washing the road salt off one night at the local carwash.
Washed the undercarriage power washed.
Temps dropped that night and the Bendix Froze up. In the morning Click.
It was -10 F.
Said the hell ....
Walked over and Fired up the 63 Pontiac Gp.
10 MT High Torque starter cranked the Olds 425 right up.
Use an Optima Red Top battery in it also.
Drove to work.
It warmed up that day.
At night the Tahoe started up.
