C3's Evel on side pipes (picture heavy)

Sidepipes do look great on a C3 Corvette.
I think Birdman is one of the last left running Sidepipes on a 1970 Firebird.
D-port Head style.
I don't ever recall sidepipes made by Hooker Headers made to fit my RAIV Heads.
Sidepipes are Loud WOT with a Big Block.
Race Car Loud.

They leave Horrible Burns on a Woman's Legs Sidepipes on a Big Block C3 Vette.
To me....Race on the street and Win.

I just checked my ankle/back of my leg. Yep. I can still see where I got burned
on my buddy Doug's Corvette sidepipes about 15 years ago.

the guys are both 100% correct! side pipes that are properly installed on a c-3 corvette look great, and with the proper inserts sound great and add performance greater than most under chassis exhausts, and yes they can and eventually will cause you or your wife or a kid to get burns on the side or rear of a leg if you don,t install the chrome perforated heat shield's and even with the heat shields ,
you don,t want to wear synthetic materials or shorts,
As most long term c3 corvette owners, with side pipe exhaust pipes ,will tell you, have ANYONE in the car,

wear denim or cotton long leg pants, and personally I liked to wear engineer , or cowboy boots with the denim blue jean slacks
or you'll eventually find out exactly why I suggested that's nearly mandatory, you can get by with leather sandals and long leg denim slacks, but your wife probably will eventually forget to step well over the hot exhaust when getting out of the car.
(mine eventually learned , but did not like driving my 496 BBC C3 corvette , more due to the power than the exhaust pipes)
Ive always like the look of corvettes with well designed a side exhaust
but they get a bad reputation from guys who have girl friends burn the back of their legs exiting the car on hot side pipes, or guys that insist on running extremely restrictive inserts to reduce the noise who then bitch about the resulting loss of power

if you were under the impression the side pipe muffler inserts were not restricting power try a dyno and careful engine re-tune with them removed, you may be amazed at the difference in power above 4000 rpm.

If only this guy had a brother in law that was a mechanic, it might be finished now . . . . . .image.jpg

yes that might be true if he ever listened too,
took advice from,
or had any desire to work with,
or provide access or money for.
the project or allowed that brother-in-law to work on the car,
or in fact showed any interest in completing the restoration...............
but since he purchased the ac cobra that has not happened

yes its a kit car , but its well put together and reasonably fast and fun to drive even though it only has a nearly stock 302 ford engine and a ford 4 speed, manual transmission
