cam ideas

ok....i have about had it with this cam.

i need to know what camshaft, would yall think,is a good replacment cam for the one i am running?

when i built this engine,it was gonna be for fun,but then my 1500 coughed up a rod and now i have to use the s-10 as an everyday street driver.

so now i need to know what cam will work with 9.8:1 compression and a stock converter.

i dont really have the money to change the cam,but it will cost less than everything else i will have to do to get this thing to have good manners in traffic.

i will be running 93 octane fuel no matter what,so throw any ideas yall have at me.

you'll be MUCH happier with an crower cam above, especially if you install it RETARDED 4 degrees from the factory suggested location

If using "Lobe Center" method of degreeing, cam should be installed on an intake centerline of: 112º not the suggested 108 and adjust the valves to 1/4 turn in from just clicking lightly at idle

yes IM sure YOU THINK ITS TO SMALL, and YOUR THINKING STEPPING IT UP A FEW DEGREES WON,T HURT....WRONG, it MATCHES your current application

what wil installing it 4* retarded do?

what will 112* installed o over the 108*?

what is the cams powerband?

i know i have a lot of questions, but that is the only way i know how to learn.thank you grumpy.

it will lower your dynamic compression just a bit making you less likely to get into detonation with a tank of less then premium gas and it will move the torque band about 150 rpm higher, than the 108 degree installed location, you can install the cam, DOT-TO-DOT and it will work ok, but install it STRAIT UP or split overlap at 112 degrees and it will work better in YOUR application
power band is 1500rpm-5500rpm with a 6000rpm rev limit, RIGHT WHERE YOUR SPENDING MOST OF YOUR TIME, WHILE DRIVING NOW
