Cam suggestions for Truck 383

solid fixture here in the forum
Truck is 84 Chevy work truck. He is gonna replace all the internals so I suggested he bore and stroke to 383. No fantastic hp/tq just improved towing performance. What cam do you guys suggest?

I can look in cam catalogs later tommarrow Bob.
Want Roller Hydraulic or Hyd. Flat tappet ?

Towing somewhere around 260 advertised duration may be ideal.
At times 250- 255 Advertised.

Basic guideline.

No, he doesn’t have the money for a roller setup!
Comp Cams is real spotty for quality Hyd flat tappet cams.

Lunati has good reputation.

Crane..Grumpys pick alot.

Crower...Fair prices.

I Like Isky Cams. Fair prices.

Try and steer him away from Comp.
Only want Roller cam from them.
Or Hi Tech Solid flat tappet....Radical drag race....wrong choice of course for towing.

Id want to know the compression, drive train etc, before making a final choice, but this cam is almost a standard for applications like that

A work Truck should get decent Mileage so it does not make you Broke driving weekly to work & back on errands.
Ideally you want 28-32.
Only going to happen with a 4 cylinder engine in a pickup Average in Town & highway use.
Towing uses lots of gasoline. Gets way worse with large cubic inch engines.

Looks like not an unlimited budget to spend.
TH 350 trans original in a 350 ci Chevy C10.

400 ci Chevy small block 4x4 had the TH400 trans.

The Lowest cost way & get best fuel economy on a tight budget of $1500-$2 K total to spend and absolute no more to spend is rebuild the 350 Chevy.
Bore it out to 355 ci.
Good valvejob.
Use cast Silvolite pistons.
Upgrade is Keith Black Hyperuentic pistons.

Otherwise it will start becoming a Hotrod project.
Before you know its a $20K- 50 K deal.

Flat tappet cam needed means he has very little $.

I don’t know about the heads, probably need the casting numbers, which I don’t have.
