I am working on a Nissan mini-van...yeah I know, but youse guys are smarter than on any other forum. I want to put a trans cooler on it. There is about 1/2" between the AC condensor and the back of the grill (no room). But, between the radiator and the fan shroud there is about 3".

So, I know that the cooler is supposed to go in front of the radiator, but will it work worth a hoot behind the radiator?

yes it will still work behind the radiator but its efficiency will be significantly reduced,
trans fluid should be cooled to under 160f and the heat exiting the radiator may not allow it to cool to that level unless the cars moving at least 30 mph in that location, be aware that there are fluid coolers that include powered fans that can be mounted in various locations other than behind the radiator
