GRUMPY... I want an AR15 but most of the local gunshops are either sold out or they don,t have something similar to what I want,
I'm looking for a heavy target barrel/varmint rifle type of rifle,

AR-15 Barrel - 24" / .223 WYLDE / 1:8 / Spiral Cut Stainless Steel / 110-406 - CBC Precision AR's
The barrel is one of the few components that directly affect the accuracy and weight of your build. Designed for corrosion resistance, this barrel will not let you down. Due to being machined from stainless steel, this barrel contains a better cut, higher-definition rifling, crowns, and...

with careful shopping you can get a heavy fluted stainless barrel with a threaded muzzle version of the AR15 in a varmints rifle with a 8:1 twist thats very accurate
the basic AR15 rifle configuration based on a rifle that looks similar to the military rifle,
the USA ARMY/MARINES/COAST GUARD/NAVY/AIR FORCE,
has been using in great numbers ever since the early 1960s ,
is now the most popular rifle in civilian hands, its a SEMI AUTO
gas pressure actuated clone in appearance,
that is rather different in several ways from the true military combat rifle.
true fully auto versions, M16 rifles
are available in many states but require a special license and tax stamp and extensive back ground checks and about a 7-9 month wait to acquire in many states,
and they must have been made prior to about 1986 when the feds banned further production being sold to civilians so the cost of a legal version is in the TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO ACQUIRE LEGALLY, and the numbers available are very limited.
now the media would have you believe you can easily convert a semi-auto clone to full auto, but the civilian versions made after about 1986 are required by the ATF to have many parts that don,t interchange, and in most cases the military parts won,t interchange and are very difficult to modify without access to a machine shop.
civilian ar15 clones can be and in some cases are considerably more accurate and designed with target rifle precision parts,
the ATF estimates 8 million are currently in civilian hands,
the true numbers are most likely 2-3 times that, minimum
American gunmakers produced and imported 8.5 million such rifles,
between 1990 and 2012, and about one and two million annually every year since.
kits allowing a semi-skilled hobbyist to build an ar15 clone have been easily available for over 35 years,
very few adults I know that own rifles don,t own one!(or more)

the AR15 platform is an adult erector set, you can within,
reasonable limits make or assemble hundreds of different combos
in barrel type, barrel length, types of stocks, and calibers, other components.
just do some research and ask LOTS of questions!
someplace will have exactly what you want at a semi-reasonable price if you shop carefully,
buy a complete kit with the parts you want, minus the lower receiver,
buy a stripped lower, and look over the internet for assembly tools and instructions,
or dump the kit at a local gunsmith for him to complete the combo that contains exactly the components that YOU WANT
most larger gunshops will gladly assembly a kit for you at a semi-reasonable cost
(generally well under $150 if you supply all the parts)
best advice don,t pinch pennies and ask lots of questions, before you purchase a kit, and
buy a complete matched component kit from a single well-known source
that will ship you an assembled upper receiver and the parts to assemble your lower receiver
