Checking in From Nor-Cal

Grump,
Thank you for setting up shop on-line.

It seemed 8 out of 10 times I would Google something automotive guess who invariably popped up... GrumpyVette!

My name is Rob Croft and presently reside in Mt. Shasta Ca.
I work for the Union Pacific R.R. and pretty much enjoy all things mechanical.
Unfortunately I have only been able to afford a small mis-matched collection of handtools, Limiting me to not much more than keeping our stock vehicles in tune as best I can. Seeing some of the projects on the few forums I frequent often leads me to be quite envious....
( I have to take some of my own advice and be grateful for what we have, and not whine about what we don't.)
I have been working on that " Shall not covet thy neighbors Hot Rod's, Motorcycles and Shop thing".. ...
The Flesh is Weak.. ...

Thank you again for taking the time for helping us all out.
You're a stand up guy, "All Aces" as my Bro-in-Law would say.

I haven't seen a donation button or tab but would like to be able to do something to help. It may only be what the recycling brings in for the week, however if 50 or so guys dropped something in the plate it surely will add up.

Pax Christi,
Tuck \o/

THANK YOU! I REALLY DO APPRECIATE THAT!

Ill eventually take donations, for site maintinance ,(not to make a proffit),
but for now Ive got my plate full transfering many gigs of info to this site from my hard drives, in several computers ,(I type with two fingers) so take some time, read, research, post questions, get your freinds to join, etc.
IF you or anyone else has questions I can help with, please post as it adds to the knowledge base on siteWELCOME ABOARD

We don't have much as far as modification.
It's about all I can do to keep these up and running.

As much as I hate to admit it, I received a Matching #'s Datsun 71 240 in exchange for repairing an elderly ladies 85' Blazer. Long story short, I got the 240's engine running quite well, however the clutch was blown and needed the three previous coats of paint removed and total re-freshing.

After snooping around the internet a bit and counting the cost to fix up the old girl, not hopping it up, just re-freshing it, there was no way I could afford it.
There was a young guy in the same class as my 16yr. old who's family owns a auto repair business. He was really interested in my seventeen yr.olds 280zx.
I gave him the 240 on the one condition he gives me first dibs to buy it back should he decide to sell it.

Now I know I could'a sold the 240 as a parts car or whatnot, but the woman who I repaired the blazer for gave me the Z car in exchange for getting her only other car running.

My boy's and I Found the distributor wires had been chewed through
by mice.

Total cost to get the Blazer running was two butt connectors, a jump start, three gallons of fuel and a can of Sea-Foam for good measure.
I couldn't in good consience sell the kid the car knowing it's gonna cost about 3k to get her up and running strong and 10k to re-fresh it.
(And thats being able to use his Fathers shop for the work.)

My wife is a Domestic Engineer, I have one Boy at the University of Portland, and son #2 is signed up for U.T.I. for fall '09,
(That's there's another thread starter right there)
and my Daughter is 9 and in the 4th grade.

After the taxes, insureance, Yadda yadda and such the 65-70k I earn as an Engineer doesn't leave much left for my addiction err..um Hobby.
So I concentrate mostly keeping things running best I can.

OH! Im all too familiar with a lack of funds for toys and parts, (Im on a pension) but you can always find ways to get parts or at least some cash if you try hard enought.
yes it can and frequently does take far longer than ideal, but its the process and the QUALITY OF THE results not the speed of the completion that counts
