Clearing A Rather Rare Ar15 Jam

I had a good name AR that was the jamOmatic I sent it back 3 times and sold it the 4th time you couldn't run 5 rounds without a jam of some kind

Like (Mikulek) sp said, it is not the rifle, but the magazines that usually causes the problem. I always use aluminum or steel magazines and if the lips get bent, I just bend them back until they eventually break. BUT, if you never let them hit the pavement or hard ground it will be hard to damage them. And always clean and lube and inspect the magazines. JMTCW

I have literally hundreds of mags new old metal plastic and every one worked fine in my other ARs at the time most of the failures were ejecting the spent rounds and I tried switching uppers lowers mags BCGs this thing was a real POS and the most money I ever spent on a gun at the time I traded it for a NIB Ruger 96 lever carbine in 44 mag so I was happy about a year ago I broke down and bought a 1911 made by the same company and it has never disappointed me I would like to know what it was causing the issues just for peace of mind

while any AR that did that would be,
extremely frustrating, to deal with and worthless as a defensive tool,
at least until the problems resolved and carefully tested,
it might be educational to look into the cause and cure of a similar problem

Id have started with magazine changes, and a good cleaning then gone on to swap bolt carrier from a known dependable AR and see if the issue stayed with the upper or followed the bolt carrier

btw I found these work rather well

Nickel Boron AR15 Bolt Carrier Group
Precision machined complete BCG (Bolt Carrier Group) combines shot peened surfaces with Nickel Boron finish for the best lubricity, function, and endurance. Fits guns chambered for .223, 5.56, .204, 300 Blackout, etc. Made to exact compliance with military drawings, then taken to the next level with advanced machining and finishing processes:
The bolt is 9310 formula steel, heat treated, magnetic particle inspected, with gas rings fitted to Milspec. The carrier is 8620 formula steel, heat treated, and held to the closest internal tolerances for accuracy and reliable function... Including full auto applications. The cam pin and firing pin are Swiss Screw turned and precision ground to achieve the closest dimensional tolerances and straightness. CNC machining and exact heat treating makes the extractor reliable and extremely wear resistant. And finally the Gas Key... CNC machined to comply exactly with military drawings, it gets heat treated, chrome lined, and is then torqued and staked onto the carrier in compliance with full auto military specifications.

I tried everything Grumpy and with most things I can fix it or at least know what the problem is but on this I gave up The factory was stumped after 3 returns it had all springs and adjustments changed by the factory and after 3 times it was sent to them and it never changed it never got better and it never got worse and after 3 tries I traded it for another gun and told the guy the problems I was having and he never got it fixed and sent it down the road and I don't think it was ever fixed

I had a buddy buy a used AR and he had several reliability issues
most were the result of what looked like the previous owner never cleaning it properly,
but a pitted chamber and a badly gunked up firing pin bolt carrier internal recess, were the primary problems,
after he swapped to a new barrel and after a good cleaning it improved drastically,
theres lots of guys that are clueless about stripping cleaning and lubrication,
and obviously theres a huge difference in the quality and precision in components,
used to assemble these rifles and the potential for marginally mismatched
, and not truly compatible components, from several different manufacturers

the company I that made this AR I believe was the original producer of military ARs so I would have to think there shouldn't be a parts quality issue and they like snakes
