compressor air hose

now any decent size shops going to have a compressor , and too use that compressor you going to need some air hose, you might not believe the difference in quality and durability, between, the cheap hoses and the better quality hoses available from places like your local hydraulic supply house but trust me when I say youll buy several of the cheap hoses for every one of the better ones and you get rather tired and annoyed at the repeated hose failures so youll eventually see the wisdom of spending a bit more up front on better quality hoses,I purchased several from HF and a couple from the local hydraulic supply house when I built my shop, I still have the hoses from the hydraulic supply, the HF stuff been replaced several times by my brother-in-law

the 50 ft"PROFESSIONAL" rubber air hose is about the best quality that harbor freight sells (its marginal)
the Polyurethane or PVC air hose is even LOWER QUALITY and won,t last long, my brother-in-law , constantly buys those as they cost a few dollars less, and some how he always seems shocked to find out they burst , or LEAK with-in weeks
your better off going to a local hydraulic supply and paying twice as much and have them make you several up with the correct swivel ends hydraulically clamped in place
you'll also need to buy 5-7 sets of the correct matched fittings , and be aware theres several non-interchangeable designs so be sure to get compatible fittings, as you'll need those for both hoses and tools, and veritably, you'll find you need more male or female fittings while you have a half dozen of the other type in a drawer, so buy extras, and save trips to the local auto parts store where they cost 5 times as much , you can buy a mixed set at some places for what you pay for one fitting at others, youll also want to have at least 2-to-3 locations around the shop to plug those air hoses into and a few accessories, like an air gun to blow chips out of threaded bolt holes and block oil passages
I,ve always found its best to have 3-5 50 ft long hoses, rather than lets say two 100 ft long ones ,so that if one fails , its not so big an issue, and having a repair kit and clamps and new fittings for repairs sure helps at times, and if a hose fails a repair kit handy saves a good deal of time.
if you need a hose to reach further you can always snap several of them end to end if required to reach some car parked outside the shop, IF you always have one end FEMALE and one end MALE FITTINGS that are compatible, with the rest of the air hose and accessory connections within the shop

youll also want a short section of hose with an air chuck

Perfect timing for this thread! I just got a new hose yesterday. I've had a lot of different hoses over the years and agree with Grumpy that buying a quality one is certainly worth the extra money IF you use them a lot, need very clean air, work overhead, and/or other other reasons of your own. The last of my old Goodyear yellow hoses got a hole in it near the end where they eventually blow out from flexing if you use a quick disconnect direct to the tools.

I've been putting off replacing my hoses for some more important purchases but I've now got a nice lightweight Flexzilla 3/8" line from the last water separator/regulator and I'm going to start adding their whips with ball swivels to the commonly used tools. I'd seen a Flexzilla on a buddys compressor and the Flexzilla hose is a pleasure to use compared with the best Harbor freight has to offer (I've got a few). The Flexzilla hose is made of some light modern material and lays flat, bends easily, and doesn't have coil "memory". http://www.legacymfg.com/products/dynam ... ode2=B25A0

I'm taking a break as I write this so I went and took a pic of my new hose. Gonna hook it up when I shut down the air compressor today but time top get back to work now!
